Re: Last Watched

Haha, I love both Ottinger and Jodorowsky but can sympathise if it is not your thing. I will say that this is the time to watch Dorian. When I saw it, it looked like this: https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmetUNidcv1zdvj27TSLcT8qm4x2dCW5rFPTFvCXskWzks/vlcsnap-00186.png Now it looks like this: https://ga...

Thoughts on 5 films by Elio Petri https://www.dailygreen.it/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/pe.jpg Elio Petri was a bleak political satirist who from the very beginning of his career took poisonous shots at wealth, power and labour relations. His comedic tragedies may occasionally make you smile, but sa...

Re: 1955 Poll 2.0

My top 20: 1955 stands out to me first and foremost for the explosive James Dean double-feature, though it has been too long since I saw either, and I do wonder if they will rank as high in my esteem of a rewatch, the same goes for many of the other films below: Rebel Without a Cause (1955, Nicholas...

Haha, I had never considered we had completely opposite tastes, but yes, frenetic will beat melodrama in my book. I never thought of it as claustrophobic, too bad the print was poor. The print is saw was quite good, and I believe there has been a restoration done after I saw it as well.

I can not make an all-great top 20 for this year, unfortunately, so will limit my selection to 12: Seven Years Bad Luck (1921, Max Linder) Hamlet (1921, Svend Gade & Heinz Schall) L'Atlantide (1921, Jacques Feyder) Eldorado (1921, Marcel L'Herbier) The Kid (1921, Charlie Chaplin) Der müde Tod (1...

Re: Last Watched

Outside of the psychedelic visuals late in the film I thought the music did not work that well with the visuals and that it felt like a not that great music video. That said, it did make me discover The Mandrake Memorial. I believe the soundtrack to this film is just their third album "Puzzle&q...

I'm also predicting that the biggest riser into the top 100 will be Cleo from 5 to 7, and I think the two other Vardas on the list, The Gleaners & I (#589) and Le bonheur (#763) will also enjoy notable jumps of at least 200 spots. I'm also expecting a couple of other Vardas to make it on. The mo...

I mean, it happened at the US open and the ATP finals (and none of the big 3 have won the ATP finals since 2015), but I have to say, this was an unbelievable match, bordering on surreal. (Also, with Nykvist on board (shot both films) + Erland Josephson on screen, it was hard not comparing it to Bergman throughout)
