Best of 2021 Poll!
Best of 2021 Poll!
Getting an early start on the SCFZ "Best of 2021" poll, where we poll our favourite films released last year:
- post a list of your favourite films from 2021
-- you can list no more than half of the 2021 films you have seen, up to a maximum of 10, except:
--- if you have seen between 40 and 59 feature films from last year: then you can list up to 11 films
--- if you have seen 60 or more feature films from last year: then you can list up to 12 films
The longer ballots are meant to give lesser-seen films (that only those who have seen a lot of 2021 movies might have seen) more of a chance.
- ranked ballots are *strongly* encouraged (if you aren't sure how to rank, maybe rank in reverse-order of letterboxd views, to give less-seen films more weight). Unless you tell me otherwise, I'll assume your ballot is ranked.
- scoring for ranked ballots will be on a 1-2-3-4-...-maximum scale (so a three-film ranked ballot will award 3, 2 and 1 points to the three films)
- unranked ballots will award the same total points as a ranked one would, but of course awarding an equal number of points to each film. So a ten-film unranked ballot, say, will award 5.5 points per film
- you can post a ballot now and edit it later - no need to let me know about changes unless you make changes on the day of the deadline. As usual, I post the results on Academy Award day, which is March 27 this year
deadline: March 25
I'll start the never-very-popular Academy Awards poll in a separate thread when the nominations are announced in February

i'm just at the point where i'll be catching up on 2021 releases, so i thought it would be both fun and helpful to start this poll up way too early, so i (and hopefully others) can get recommendations. and i thought i'd do this now because i always find my end-of-year ballot hilarious at the actual end of the year, because i don't watch many new things.
more than two months to the deadline, but you can post a ballot now if you want and just edit it as many times as you like

it's possible only none, one, or two of these will end up on my final list, once i watch more stuff

I hope this is that kind of end-of-year poll where we don't just go by IMDb year tag, but also allow films that have an 'earlier year" (in this case, 2020) tag, since a lot of indies get premiered at one of the festivals and wait for another year to get a public release at cinemas or VOD.
EDIT: Flip, no worries, I found your answer to the same question in the 2020 Poll thread.

I watched Spencer two days ago, but I still can't find the right words to fully describe my emotions. All I'm gonna say for now is that Spencer is the best movie I've seen since The Favourite in 2018. Pablo Larraín made an unforgettable masterpiece and will watch it again this year, for sure.

i'm undecided now if i should keep to the sunday deadline for this poll, since editing ballots doesn't seem easy (i think it's possible? but i haven't figured out how to do it), and if there are multiple copies of ballots in the thread, tabulating will be a pain. actually maybe i am decided: i'll tally the academy awards poll on sunday a few hours before the oscars (so please cast your ballots there before then!) but i'll leave this open until we have more clarity about the technical issues here. so the deadline will be soon, but not in two days.

Some of the major films from 2021 are in the cinema right now for me. By the end of the weekend I will have seen The Worst Person In The World and several others critical darlings too. I understand the aesthetic concept of parrying the odious Academy Awards, if you can wait until Sunday then that's great if not, no worries.
