Re: Cannes 2021 Betting Thread

Never heard of Triet before and her films do not have that high ratings on IMDb. What would you recommend.

This edition of Cannes seems to have had a more exciting mix than most years, can't wait to dive into these.

Re: Last Watched

Incredible films, you should definitely look forward to part 3, many think it's the best.

My preference is 1, 3, 2.

I always wondered if Part 2 served as an inspiration for Full Metal Jacket.

Re: 1983 Poll 2.0

Some quick thoughts on the 1983 films I have been watching lately: I watched a rather exciting American indie double feature yesterday in the form of Bless Their Little Hearts (Bill Woodberry) and Last Night at the Alamo (Eagle Pennell), both notable for their lo-fi black and white aesthetics and fo...

Really happy to see Pauline at the Beach cause some debate, I absolutely adore it, though I think it is important to see it in the context of the Comedies and Proverbs cycle, as it is the 3rd film and adds some really exciting changes to the formula developed in The Aviator's Wife and A Good Marria...

The Sky on Location was beautiful, fascinating and poetic. Did not quite love it, for similar reasons as to why I often just end up liking Benning, but the added multi-narrators and quotes were very nice touches.

L'Homme a la Valise (Chantal Akerman) Watched this one three days ago. Mini-write-up: The Man with the Suitcase is a farcical, almost dialogue-less comedy that could be seen as a sequel to Je Tu Il Elle (and The Meetings of Anna). Akerman plays herself, more overtly than the previous, as she return...

Re: 1983 Poll 2.0

1983 is just an insanely good year for me, with my top 3 all being in my top 100, and my number three being a standard best of the year film. It is also a year that for me shows utter French dominance, even stronger than in the 60s. I'd be interested in seeing if that's a trend for other users here ...
