Re: SCFZ poll: Catherine Deneuve

haven't seen the movies she did with techine, a director who is a big blind spot for me in general I've only seen one Techine, which was L'Adieu a la nuit . I thought the movie was really bad (islamaphobic in a really boring way) and it discouraged me from checking out his other work. BUT... Deneuv...

Vadim Abdrashitov, 79
Need to watch his films, they've been on my radar for years. Feels strange to be encouraged to explore someone's work after they're gone even if I've successfully done that with Rohmer/Chabrol and others in the past.

Re: SCFZ poll: Catherine Deneuve

Thought I'd get the ball rolling on these again with two French greats. Considered Binoche and Huppert as well but feel like they're still very much active. Not that Deneuve isn't, but I feel like the bulk of her work is behind her. Would love to poll the other two at some point as well. Get the nom...

Thanks, flip! Haven't checked the forums in ages so didn't even realise they stopped working. Managed to watch more movies recently so gonna catch up with what I've missed. Could add Fyodor Khitruk to the list, I have 8 and since he was featured in a cup a while back, there should be enough or nearly enough views for him in general.

The Lineup, which suffers from being staunchly pro-police and boringly procedural but does come alive when the villains or the SF landmarks are on screen. Makes me wonder how Dirty Harry holds up, haven't seen it in over a decade. Dune, which has some pretty sick set design and was generally very en...

Re: what are you reading?

I'm reading four books at the same time, thought I'd kicked that habit. Cheever's Collected Stories . I'm only a few stories in, and it's a fat one, but really digging his style, a little naïve perhaps but poignant and evocative nonetheless. Hrabal's Dancing Lessons for the Advanced in Age . Read 40...
