Yeah, we obviously already did him.
So many names, one is bound to get confused.

if anyone would like to pick our next director for the poll starting tomorrow, please feel free! just post here a director who we've confirmed has enough views (or ask about a director who hasn't been suggested yet). if no suggestions come in by tomorrow morning, i'll pick robert florey, who has enough views
Jess Franco has nearly been done a few times so let's do him!flip wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 12:06 pm if anyone would like to pick our next director for the poll starting tomorrow, please feel free! just post here a director who we've confirmed has enough views (or ask about a director who hasn't been suggested yet). if no suggestions come in by tomorrow morning, i'll pick robert florey, who has enough views
great, jess franco poll starts tomorrow! that poll will fittingly overlap with the start of shocktober
and everyone else please feel free any time to add director names to our poll queue if they've met the view threshold
current poll queue:
jess franco
...
robert florey -- when we need a name
juraj herz -- in 2-3 weeks

duvivier... https://letterboxd.com/fliptrotsky/list ... s-poll-20/
jones... https://letterboxd.com/fliptrotsky/list ... s-poll-16/
names already polled are part of the list as cross-checked.
about half of cross-checked (polled) names are still missing in the list (will be added in due course of time — and then there will be no confusion about who was/wasn't polled already — before coming up with a new name just check the cross-checked!).
added Walt Disney with greennui's 7+
in the past, greg mentioned Disney/Iwerks 10+ (i listed only Iwerks 10+ and omitted Disney).
i expect Disney and Iwerks should be kept separately??? or???
(if yes) greg, can you specify your Disney and Iwerks viewings?

Disney is listed as a co-director on a lot of the early Disney studio productions, including a lot by Iwerks, so if they were both polled there'd be some possible duplication. Disney pretty much had his hand in most of the work being put out, so it might just be easier to go with him rather than the individual directors if you just want one poll to cover it, or ignore Disney and go with the guys under him that get director credit like Iwerks and Luske, Sharpsteen, and so on. The problem there is though that the full length releases often had split responsibilities, so a number of guys would work on different parts of the same films. It's all a bit complicated from an "auteur" point of view unless you run with Walt himself as the ultimate guy in charge 'til Jungle Book or the Winney the Pooh film in 1968, as those were the last things he oversaw before his death I gather.

so, i will solve the puzzle (for now) by listing your 10+ disney (plus greennuis' 7+) and your 10+ iwerks.
and ultimately "someone" will decide/suggest what kind of poll to do.

Sounds good since Iwerks did werk outside Disney, so there still might be some interest in polling him
Could add Fyodor Khitruk to the list, I have 8 and since he was featured in a cup a while back, there should be enough or nearly enough views for him in general.
i managed khitruk in that cup! and if i recall correctly, he won. but i've only seen 8 too, the others are probably on kg but i didn't have any luck finding them elsewhere
i'll suggest another director i managed in a cup, nina shorina, seen 10 but i'll be surprised if anyone else has seen very many

more "impossible" names! (viewings will follow.)

please continue suggesting directors for polls if they have enough views! we didn't get a suggestion for today so i'm going with robert florey
if there had been a director nominated, i would have started a poll yesterday, but no suggestions yet -- anyone who is interested in polling a particular director, please post a name here! if nothing happens. by friday, i'll choose someone probably randomly because i just chose robert florey
and if it's juraj herz time, also let me know.

due to cold weather conditions, the second part of my stay in the off-town seclusion will be shorter than previously expected and thus i am fine if Herz poll will start at the end of the next week. i am gonna watch THE JUNK SHOP and NIGHTMARES today (before going to sleep)!
I'll put in a bid for Jack Arnold or James Whale for the next poll, both with some Halloween adjacent flicks and deserving otherwise too.
perfect, so the upcoming schedule will be:
friday: derek jarman
tuesday next week: jack arnold
friday next week: juraj herz
and i'll do a james whale poll the next time there aren't any suggestions in the queue (unless you'd prefer we poll whale instead of arnold first)

No, Arnold is great, I'm fine with waiting on Whale.
