Re: Everything is Political
Rischka and everyone in the US - I'm sending my best wishes. I'll be following it closely, sitting all night by my TV and laptop. I'm nervous, but trying to persuade myself that the outcome is going to be possitive and that angry maga cult will crumble like a Jenga set. And I wonder if Kamala have a...

I'm also watching Abbott and Costello horror flicks. Films aren't great, but their antics are still funny.

Watched two films for the poll, both going to be on my final ballot. Who’s Minding the Mint? (Howard Morris) & The Jungle Book . Who’s Minding the Mint may not be a perfect film, but it is definitely one of the funniest comedies I've seen in a long time. It's got some obvious flaws in the third ...

I was pleasantly surprised by Buck and the Preacher (Sidney Poitier, 1972) that I watched last month. A very cool western featuring the great Harry Belafonte and Ruby Dee as well.
Some clear inspirations for Tarantino's Django Unchained.

the coppola/crash thing (at least according to coppola) was assumption on cronenberg's part - https://x.com/lou_kicks/status/1763097822826508393 Interesting how Coppola remembers it. Might be true, of course. The story I wrote above was told to the audience before a screening of Crash this last Mar...

Re: Cannes 2021 Betting Thread
in Cronenberg's case it was Francis Ford Coppola who was the president of the jury that year and he hated Crash so much that he firmly stood against giving Palme D'Or for it, while a majority of the jury wanted to. When jury decided to present special award to Crash, Coppola even refused to present ...

fail/safe (sidney lumet 1964) an excellent cold war thriller that had the bad luck to come out the same year as dr strangelove Glad you liked it. Fail Safe is one of my favorite films and I vastly prefer it to Dr. Strangelove . Fail Safe would go well in double-bill with Seven Days in May .
