Year Cup organization
Year Cup organization
It looks like the most support is for either a Year Cup or a Shorts Year Cup. Either way, those who want to participate will need to pick a year to represent. Participants will select films from their year (5-6 if it's a Shorts Year Cup, and 3-4 if it's a regular feature-length Year Cup), and their picks will go head-to-head with other people's picks for other years.
If you're interested in participating, please answer the following questions:
1. Would you manage a year in a Year Cup? Which year?
2. Would you manage a year in a Shorts Year Cup? Which year?
3. If you answered yes to both 1 and 2, which, if either, would you prefer doing?

i just don't think we've got enough people have we?
i can't face the responsibility of managing, but i'll gladly watch & play other people's picks (unless they're gorefests or rape movies)

We've got 4 yes for each. Anyone else?
1. I suppose so, but I still prefer nations.
2. Nope.
2. Nope.

1. Yes, but can't decide which one
2. No
2. No
This year I would like to participate only by watching films for the Cup whenever I can. So far this is my busiest year ever, but I'm glad I'm getting some good jobs to do.
We have 6 yes for features and 4 yes for shorts...
If we can get to 8 yes for features, I'll organize it. mesnalty, you were a maybe - what do you think?

i'd be a yes for shorts i think, i'd have to figure out a good year, but probably from the 1970s. not sure on features yet.
If we end up at 7 without me for features, I'll join.

Ok as discussion stopped, let's decide and start with the competition.
mesnalty is in if we get one more. So let's see if one more joins. flip said he's not sure if he will or not. People can start by picking years, if they haven't already, or even if they're not 100% sure if they're gonna manage or not
Potential Year Cup:
bure420 - 1976
Evelyn - 1939
kanafani - 1995
DT. - 1983
karl
Mario Gaborovic - 1961
FLABREZU - 2003
maybes:
mesnalty - 1974 (if we reach 7 without him)

Ain't no one got the guts to pick a silent year?

I'll do 1961.
'83, '74, and '39 were all years I considered, but maybe I'll do a twenties or a fifties since no one elses doing yrs from those decades. Hard choice: 20s to 50s you get the best of the "classical" cinema but by only a handful of countries, then once the sixties roll round you get new waves and new countries entering the scene... I may just pull two numbers out of a hat.

You're welcome to join! The deal is pretty straightforward: everyone picks 5 films from their chosen year, and each round one of your films goes head to head with a film someone else picked for their year. We will try to help those who don't have access get a hold of the films they want to watch so they can vote (you need to see or have seen both movies to vote in a match-up). You won't face anyone twice. We'll keep track of who wins the most matches, but it's just for fun.
Okay, since it looks like we've got at least 8 participants, let's go ahead with this.
@Evelyn, @kanafani, @DT., @karl (when you pick a year), @Mario Gaborovic, @FLABREZU, @ItsUhhMee
please send me 5 films from your chosen year, in the order you think you'd like to use them. You can change any of your picks at any point during the competition until the start of the match in which a particular pick is used, but I do need 5 potential picks you're thinking of before the competition starts. The first year we did this a couple of participants disappeared halfway through the competition, which is why we added this stipulation.

I assume we should steer away from movies we think most people have already seen? Any concrete guidelines mister cup organizer?
