I've also got this one lined up.

Dutronc's performance in Zulawski's earlier film That Most Important Thing: Love is one of the main reasons why I wanna watch it.

I just found something on my drive I didn't know I had, R Gavaldon directing in English: The Adventures Of Casanova, starring A de Cordova, Linda Darnell and Turhan Bey (1949). Guess I have to make time for that one real soon, wot? How could I not?

Every few weeks I get a sudden, inexplicable urge to watch a completely random but very popular film. This is one of those times.

I'm gonna watch The Planet of the Apes (1968) for no reason except that it's there and, well... why not? I'll probably regret this. I usually do.

Century of Birthing - Lav Diaz. It's 360 minutes long, so ~75 minutes per day = finish in 5 days

so... i don't remember exactly what year it was i repped uchida in mubi director's cup? 'thoxans' might know ;)

anyway it was frustrating that so many of his films were unsubbed and most intriguing of all was koiya koi nasuna koi "the mad fox" (1962), about a man who unwittingly marries a fox spirit. lo and behold, a few days ago i was notified that eng subs are available and i will watch it tonight

hindi remake, which i didn’t realize until now. still good tho. some really striking shots at times, persistent twists and turns and melodrama, and a little bit of pygmalion thrown in for good measure. have you seen either/both?

have seen both, the hindi version is much higher budget but suffers from lead actor raaj kumar, who i think is pretty insufferable (despite being in a few truly great films). while bengali version has uttam kumar, one of the kings of melodrama...and i think some of the sheer bleakness of the triangle gets lost a little in the hindi version but that may be more matter of interpretation than anything.

i see the bengali version is on tube (2hr 11min, which looks like the correct runtime). i'd like to watch the og, but do you think anything will be lost, since i watched the remake first?

sidenote: agreed about raaj kumar! this is the first time i've seen him, so i couldn't quite put my finger on it; but yeah, he just wasn't very charismatic. the female leads were def the high point of the remake, esp hema malini
