Get Outta Town - who knows? 1960

Perfect no-budget dumpster noir, fits on my headshelf somewhere close to Carnival Of Souls and Who Killed Teddy Bear. As long as you don't expect conventionally good filmmaking, it's charming beyond belief.

speaking of garfield he finally gets a non-criminal role. an escaped prisoner of war hunted by the nazis. or is he... iirc garfield was considered the forerunner of brando's acting style. ofc he died quite young, hounded to death by HUAC. RIP hero

I've just finished another Garfield noir where he also stands up against nazis. Dangerously They Live (Robert Florey, 1941)

Fun, but a little unfocused story-wise war time/spy noir picture.

Johnny Eager (Mervyn LeRoy, 1941) 9/10

Van Heflin absolutely deserved his Oscar win. What an amazing performance by him and everyone else, really. Spectacular noir!

Deadline USA (Richard Brooks, 1952) - this was fine, actually it sucked. good noirsssspapermunn shits are hard to find

The Cry Baby Killer (Justus Addiss, 1958) - this was fine, actually

Crime Wave (John Paizs, 1985) - definitely not a noir, but a weirdo movie abt noir among other things in a roundabout way

They Live by Night (Nick Ray, 1948) - now you see, this book is empty and dull. that's why it made such a good film. it's the best romance ever, for sure, told entirely with eyes

it's aways fun to watch alan ladd get tough with people and remember he was like 5'5"



lucky jordan (1942) reunites him with 'this gun for hire' director frank tuttle, playing a mob boss who can't avoid conscription but goes AWOL (kidnapping a nurse along the way!) and ends up busting a ring of spies. fun chase at formal gardens somewhere beyond far rockaway (far beyond!)

Más allá del olvido (1956) proto-vertigo argentine noir from hugo del carril. this is apparently him staring into the camera



a grief stricken widower happens upon his wife's double, albeit with wildly divergent personality. if she'd only behave....

no no deadline at dawn didn't work for me at all. outrageous plots can be fun but come on, cornwell woolrich and clifford odetts!!!

no chemistry between the leads and some kind of assumption that america's service members couldn't possibly commit murder. come again?

this appears to be director harold clurman's only film which is not a huge surprise to me. it's completely implausible but contains some nice musuraca cinematography. several popular noir tropes in developmental stages here. i just didn't buy it for a second. also i fell asleep but i didn't care enough to see what i missed



ok i'm watching it again and it looks damned good i do kind of get it - it's a one off like wendkos' the burglar. but i'm not fan of girl detective susan hayward and the male lead is just dull



i did miss some stuff. the plot is wild. odetts dialogue can be really too much. kinda like this movie



it makes progressively less sense

eva martino i don't think i've seen before, she's very beautiful and only made a few films but she's just one of pedro's harem he looks good without the stache



interesting set designs.... more after i see how he gets out of this jam (or not)

the dark past (mate 1948) pretty crazy home invasion of a psychiatrist who manages to cure maniac william holden, alas too late. lee j cobb would've been much better in the holden role. the psychoanalysis is so dumb yet i couldn't stop watching it

i walk alone (byron haskin 1948)



this was kinda fun as it's burt and izzy's first film together. kirk plays a slimey bastard which he could do in his sleep i think



burt - his somewhat more innocent partner went to prison for 14 years. now he's back to tell everyone kirk's childhood nickname: DINK



and to get 50% of his business as promised and also he's still taller. dink has other ideas and uses a cute singer to distract burt



which turns out to be a mistake. they're doing their stock characters here but they're still fresh



449 to go on tspdt 1000 noirs list!! also look out greennui i am coming for you and i bet i have way more official shorts to watch



pushover (quine 1954) a twisted double indemnity knock off and fred macmurray just hasn't learned a thing. quite good
