A note to Greg:

Have you noticed that, clustered around 1960, there's a clutch of Hollywood movies that present-maybe-endorse a very authoritarian style of policing? I've seen it, different ways/differing degrees, in Sgt Rutledge, Bells Are Ringing, Beyond The Time Barrier, and This Is Not A Test/1962. Any thoughts? Keep your eyes open...

Results

Ballots: 16 Films voted for: 137

To my mind, some very interesting results, especially when compared with the recent S&S poll. No less than 5 of the new S&S 100 are from 1960: Psycho (31); Breathless (38); The Apartment (54); La Dolce Vita (60); L'avventura (72). According to SCFZ, though, the best movie of the year is Ozu's Late Autumn, and more strikingly, some of the S&S favs don't make a showing at all. Breathless only appeared in one ballot, for 3 points, coming in tied at 79th. So, per us, not only was it not the 38th best film of all time, it wasn't even the 78th best movie of its year! I'm thrilled, personally...
