I just rewatched this today and somehow didn't catch it.

(Also, with Nykvist on board (shot both films) + Erland Josephson on screen, it was hard not comparing it to Bergman throughout)

Watched Mauvais Sang. Is Dennis Lavant the 21st century Jaque Catelain?

@gleode: i did wonder if it was the subtitler but it gave me a laugh anyway and they weren't easy to come by (bergman-esque indeed)

i intended to watch this film for the 1986 poll BUT...

https://twitter.com/jirinvk/status/1474 ... 44418?s=20

but there is a problem with its date!
imdb (naturally) disregards these types of films, so no entry, no date.
kg 1986, lbox 1990, mubi 1986.
other sources split approximately half-1986 half-1990.
once, there is an all-encompassing date "1986/1990".
heroine of the film mentions (in the film) she is shooting the (one particular) scene in 1984.
so, i am more inclined to go with 1986 — but i am at doubts???
(sorry for being an ill-informed nitpicker and for being so indecisive.)
- Basically, I am sorry.
- I am sorry that I don't believe you like this film.
- I would like to apologize to you for having to watch this film.
- And I would like to apologize to the soul who got reincarnated as a camera.
- I am sorry, camera, for having to watch me.
- I am sorry that this film is too long.
- I apologize for not editing more.
- I am sorry the film run out.
- I am sorry, film, that I think you are trivial. You are very trivial!
- I want to apologize to the film I never made.
- Someday, I believe I am saying "I am sorry" and I mean it.
- Someday, I may be able to apologize correctly.
- I am sorry that my apologies don't seem sincere.
- I am sorry I can't read lips so I could tell you what I am apologizing about.
- I am sorry I say "I am sorry" all the time.
- I am sorry I am apologizing all the damn time.
- I have been apologizing for myself all my life and I am sorry for I have been apologizing.
- I am sorry I apologize too much.
- I cover my trail with apologies.
- I am SOOO sorry.
- I know there must be some apologies that I need to make. I am sorry I can't think of them.
- I am sorry you may feel you may have to forgive me for something you would never know you had to forgive me for unless I had apologized for it.
- Excuse me.
- It is my fault.
- What are your favorite apologies? I am sorry if I made you think of them.
- I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry...
- I apologize for having wasted your time.

quick double feature of the last 2 chinese films from 1986 on my desktop. first, the last emperor, li han-hsiang's taiwan/hong kong production of the story told in the bertolucci film - only there's no famous british actor making the story all about him. the ex-emperor, played by tony leung ka fai in his first lead, is a pitiable figure. very well done if you're interested in another perspective

Image

another pitiable figure is the 'hero' of swan song, which thx to karl i have now watched. both these films cover the cultural revolution period, this one from the perspective of a composer and musician who can't seem to find his place in the new world any more than the ex emperor can. terrific film by this writer/director whose career never really took off; it's in terrible need of restoration but i will add it to my ballot. thx karl!!

Not that thrilled with my choices, the movies are fine but don't really excite all that much, though it's been a good number of years since I've seen a lot of them too, so it might just be fading memory involved. Intended to watch more, but got caught up digging into Parajanov's Arabesques on a Pirosmani Theme, which I thought was from '86 but turns out to be from '85 according to IMDb, so of no use to the poll anyway. Still an interesting side trip though, so not a total waste.
