SCFZ poll: William KL Dickson
SCFZ poll: William KL Dickson
Polling the films of director William Kennedy Laurie Dickson
The rules:
- your list can include no more than half of the Dickson films you've seen, up to a maximum of 5. So if you've seen seven of his films, for example, you can list only a top 3. It's only if you've seen ten or more of his films than you can list the maximum of five.
- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.
- deadline for ballots: next Tuesday, in seven days, whatever day that is
- if anyone is watching films for these polls, then i'll extend the deadline up to three days, if someone requests an extension
- next poll: whoever posts the first ballot in this thread is free to nominate the director we poll next, unless you've nominated in this round already (everyone should get a chance). Already nominated this round: greennui, bure, roscoe, kanafani, greg x, silga, oscarwerner, john ryan, mrcarmady, umbugbene, evelyn
umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/
one rule for nominees: at least 3 scfzers need to have seen 10+ of a nominee's films, or at least 4 scfzers need to have seen at least 8 of the nom's films, so if it isn't clear if that will be the case, we'll confirm that's true before moving forward
if 24 hours pass after a poll opens, and no one eligible to nominate has posted a ballot, then i'll nominate someone, and then we'll start over, and everyone will be able to nominate again

i assume sad scrooge meant he's seen 17 frampton, not 17 dickson? if so, and if m arkadin has seen 7+, we'd just need one more person with 7+ frampton seen to go ahead with a poll. i've only seen 4, so i can't help, but if anyone has seen at least 7, please reply here!
I meant Dickson

I've got 13 Frampton.
oh ok if scrooge meant dickson (don't want to vote for any?) then we're still two frampton viewers short of a poll, i'll give it 24 hours to find at least one more and if not, we'll try someone else
i've now seen 7 frampton, so he meets the poll criteria - i'll start the hollis frampton poll tomorrow!

"An Englishman born in France with family ties in the USA, W.K.L. Dickson's work in cinema was as international in scope as his background. He inherited skills in painting and music, was educated in the classics, and trained in the sciences. Hired by Thomas Edison as an electrical engineer, his strong interest in photography led Edison to assign him as the principal experimenter in the development of the Edison Kinetograph and Kinetoscope, the first commercially successful motion picture camera and viewing machine." – excerpt from Encyclopedia of Early Cinema
