Silga: Assassins would have been better if Banderas and Sly switched roles, and if the writer or director hadn't made the tactical error of focusing on 'silencer' driven gun play. It is an odd film in some ways. Strikes me as a smaller scale film that was blown up when stars signed on.

It certainly feels like a film that was in development without these two stars in mind and was later modeled according to Stallone and Banderas typecasting tropes. It was actually first written by The Wachowskis and later, during production, rewritten by Brian Helgeland. I think Sly's role makes sense, considering his screen persona at the time. He played a slightly similar role in The Specialist a year earlier.

I saw 66 first-time viewings and 7 rewatches in April. The success rate was no

Rewatches

O noapte furtunoasa  / A Stormy Night (1943, Jean Georgescu) 4 --> 5.5
La glace à trois faces (1927, Jean Epstein) 4 --> 7
The 400 Blow (1959, Francois Truffaut) 8.5 --> 8
Happy End (2017, Michael Haneke) 9 --> 9
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017, Yorgos Lanthimos) 9.5 --> 9
Estiu 1993 (2017, Carla Simón) 10 --> 9.5
Hiroshima mon amour (1959, Alain Resnais) 9.5 --> 9

Hiroshima mon amour was the "greatest" rewatch here as it had been such a long time. I had entirely forgotten how it essentially starts of as a conceptual/philosophical essay film, pioneering the male and female conversational style before Godard and Miéville made it their clear staple. It is a thoroughly intriguing film from beginning to end, ripe with interpretation and play.

Great first-time viewings:

9
Babardeala cu bucluc sau porno balamuc / Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (2021, Radu Jude)
La vie nouvelle (2002, Philippe Grandrieux)

8.5
À tout prendre / Take It All (1963, Claude Jutra)
Le tout nouveau testament / The Brand New Testament (2015, Jaco Van Dormael)

8
Fuoco! / Fire! (1968, Gian Vittorio Baldi)
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020, Charlie Kaufman)
La vie à l'envers / Life Upside Down (1964, Alain Jessua)

Wilder Urlaub / The Deserter (1943, Franz Schnyder)
Pytel blech / A Bag of Fleas (1962, Vera Chytilová)

My own. I'm so fed up with 7 day weeks and other stupidity

I discovered recently that summer/fall are actually about 93 days each in a regular yr (spring and especially winter shorter) which is why February is weird but that doesn't excuse how stupid it is.

So yrs start/end at the winter solstice. Maybe first day of spring, still thinking about this, would love feedback. But that doesn't hugely matter. Fuck months, we have 4 seasons. Each season has 9 weeks of 10 days (in non-leap year winter the last week has 9; in summer/fall the 1st/4th/7th weeks have 11)

1 year is 4 seasons
1 season is 9 weeks
1 week is 10 days

No "months" but there are naturally trimesters of each season. But those are aligned with seasons

Considering "assigning" names to the days of the week but that sorta goes against why I'm doing this. I realized that work weeks don't work for me, labouring for 5 days straight is such bullshit. So I want this to be as flexible as possible

I am working on a grand unified theory of how to reorganize society as essentially anarchic, from a dual communal/global perspective. I don't think it's for me to say how anyone else arranges their time, but I should note that in a 10 day week u can have 0xx0xx0xx0, where 0 is a day of no labour. You still labour 60% of days but never 3 days consecutively, and you still regularly get 2 straight labourless days. I might go with that for my own life as I begin this project/experience

It was a bit kismit, I was on shrooms last night when I realized this week bullshit wasn't working for me. Coincidentally, today is the first day of the 7th week (out of 9) of spring, so I've got exactly 1/3 of spring left right now

Generally speaking I've long thought that human activity should be more in line with the seasons, thus starting with spring I've for how called them Lernen (learn), Spielen (play), Langsamen (slow down) and Ruhen (rest)

(physically) i was born on autumnal equinox and, as the start of the new year, i (subjectively) perceive spring equinox.
i always try to ignore the so-called "New Year's Eve".
"Lernen (learn), Spielen (play), Langsamen (slow down) and Ruhen (rest)" sounds cool!

thanks!

in a brief moment of sobriety i realized that making the seasons different lengths is actually peak paleopagan bullshit, the exact sort of thinking that got us stuck with this ridiculous february in the first place. every season has gotta be 91 or 92 days, no question

btw. if one is born on the autumnal equinox, at first glimpse it might seem cool that one's birth occurred "when the plane of Earth's equator passed through the geometric center of the Sun's disk". however, once taking into consideration the average duration of pregnancy, suddenly it's not possible to get rid of the odd (nagging) thought that one's parents might have fornicated under the Xmas tree. fortunately enough, i was a dumb kid and didn't realize "autumnal equinox minus 9 = Xmas". thus i had a happy (innocent) childhood. only later, i started to perceive Xmas as something kinky & weird.

This is a great story!!

I haven't seen it yet, but last week Nova Lituania won 9 awards at National Lithuanian Film Awards, including best film, director, cinematography, etc. I expect the film will be re-released now that cinemas have finally reopened.
