I'll give this a try, despite it seeming quite daunting a task and a futile one at that. Seen about 80 from last year thus far.

1. Free Solo
2.If Beale Street Could Talk
3. Other Side of the Wind
4. I Can Only Imagine
5. Green Book
6. BlackKklansman
7. Bohemian Rhapsody
8. Roma
9. Won't You Be My Neighbor
10. Eighth Grade

Again, NOTHING set in stone. The top 4 are pretty safe.

OSCARS

I've seen all but 2 of these, and it looks like I'm done before the awards. I'll go ahead and rank the entire of the categories (that I've seen all of). MISSING: Capernaum and Werk ohne autor. This is how I'd vote, not necessarily my favorite in each category (except maybe a few)

it feels like we don't have as many ballots as usual this year - still time to post your best-of-2018 picks!

i'm going to tally what's been posted so far - but i'll still take new ballots up until 3pm Eastern Time (north america) tomorrow, so if anyone still wants to participate, please do!

if you want to edit a ballot you posted earlier, that is fine, but instead of editing your post, instead please quote your entire previous ballot in a new post, along with your new updated ballot. that will make it easiest for me to work out how to adjust my tally-in-progress. thanks!

Haha wow, didn't realize I'd already posted a ballot. Too much Goddamn reefer lol. Nah, I guess I'll keep the Coen Bros I think. A lot of Roma's magnificence was tied to seeing it on the big screen...although tbf, not like the Coen Bros gave me that opportunity, did they. Hrmph. Now I'm really puzzled. Any way I can give them each a half point?

Hey Flip, for Best Film oscar, are we not confined to picking from just the 8 officially nominated 2019 best film list? In other words, am I free to put Burning and Cold War in my oscars best film list?

the oscars part of the poll is restricted to the nominated films - we're imagining how scfz would vote if we were academy award voters. we're definitely not voting on the actual best film of the year in that part of the poll. that's what the main poll is for!

SCFZ Oscars Poll Results

we had a surprising amount of participation in the oscars poll this year (surprising compared to previous years) and we got at least one ballot in every category, including the short film categories. so because we can actually do it, i'll declare an scfz winner in every category, even when there was only one ballot.

first a few of the less prestigious categories:

SCFZ's Oscar Winners:

Best Visual Effects: Ready Player One
Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Mary Queen of Scots
Best Costume Design: The Favourite
Best Production Design: The Favourite
Best Original Song: "Shallow" from A Star is Born
Best Sound Editing: A Quiet Place
Best Sound Mixing: A Star is Born
Best Live Action Short: Fauve
Best Animated Short: One Small Step
Best Documentary Short: (tie) End Game / A Night at the Garden

I have tallied the results for the 'SCFZ's Best of 2018' poll. For the second straight year, exactly 109 different films received votes, so I'll post a top 100 to letterboxd. As in past years, I'm using letterboxd views as a tiebreaker (fewer views = higher ranking).
