Re: indian popular cinema

I decided to give Saaho a look in the theater as well and found myself focusing on the bits of ingenuity applied to maintain its consistent level of momentum. One instance could be this upside-down shot that tracks around until it adjusts itself right-side up with the character's plan moving forward...

Re: SCFZ poll: Frank Tashlin

Seen 20 Tashlin films (8 features and 12 shorts).

1. Artists and Models (1955)
2. Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957)
3. The Girl Can’t Help It (1956)
4. Susan Slept Here (1954)
5. The Disorderly Orderly (1964)

Curious to see how Fulci ranks, but alas I've only seen six.

Gentleman Jim (Raoul Walsh, 1942) ♥ Marriageable Girls (Janusz Kondratiuk, 1972) Flashing Spikes (John Ford, 1962) Didn't get around to watching many movies this month - just the final cup shorts and a rewatch of Walsh's Gentleman Jim, which remains essential to me as one of Walsh's unique character...

x1972 Well, it's at least three now. :newyear: Marriageable Girls had me more emotionally involved with its detailed performances and the subtle camera movements accentuating the social dynamics within the group of friends; I could have easily watched a full film of their city trips. Flashing Spikes...

Rutger Hauer in an Ermanno Olmi film?? Whoa, I gotta check that out :-o

The last film I saw Hauer in was Surviving the Game (1994), a pretty good pulpy riff on The Most Dangerous Game.

Baby Face (Alfred E. Green, 1933)

First time watch but I guess I've read enough about it over the years that it felt oddly familiar. Very iconic Stanwyck performance, as expected.

Seen 6, rewatched a couple of the shorter ones just now. Perhaps echoing Roscoe's comment, I've never been quite sure how to best approach Anger's films. I admire the ones I've seen but feel as if they haven't quite 'clicked' for me yet. 1. Puce Moment (1949) 2. Eaux d'artifice (1953) 3. Invocation ...

So for this year I wanted to do something a little different. Really like this idea! Produces a very interesting list too. And I definitely relate: I find it easier to recall a film when I've written a capsule for it; and I usually find it much harder to write about movies that are already well-est...
