buying a record player

guys i wanna get my partner a record player for a gift cos they say theirs sucks, they got it from urban outfitters in high school or something. i dunno nothing abt this sort of thing. what is a fair price to get something good? is this something you'd ever buy online or is that risky

online should be ok, although all the places i know are in the us and i know us/canada shipping has had some cost issues recently.
do they already have speakers and/or a receiver? if they got it from urban outfitters, it might be one of those all in one models.

thank you for the advices homie - yes, it was one of those all-in-one models. so i got a new system, they love it so far!
