That's crazy. I hate not being able to go to games at the moment but as an Arsenal fan, I'm cautiously optimistic about the season ahead.
patriots don't look like they're going to do well this year, for the first time in ages, they're maybe my least favourite sports team especially after washington changed their name, so that's some good news
i'm watching the thirty minutes of mff that i can tolerate before getting bored and there's a tv ad where some actor or possibly a genuine employee says "it's like a family. i definitely can't imagine working anywhere other than chick-fil-a." that person seems to be suffering from a dangerous lack of imagination.

I'm following Charlton Athletic and Man United so my outlook is positively pessimistic.

Alphonso Davies is fucking sick, that Bayern team looks scary. Thiago going to Liverpool and Coutinho and Perisic returning to their clubs is the only thing that slightly weakens their team but they got Sane in so pretty sure they're gonna contend for the CL again.
I actually went to Charlton's stadium a few weeks before lockdown, what a shithole. Fun fan atmosphere though. How come you follow them?

I just liked their badge, kit and name lol. They were in the Premier League at the time so you were able to see them on television now and then but I ended up gravitating towards United as well, mostly cuz my two brothers were ardent Arsenal fans and the rivalry was pretty heated at the time.

If we are talking Premier, this season my heart is with Leeds, because of Bielsa.
In the past I leaned toward Manchester City, because of Aguero who is a fan and always played for Independiente before going to Europe, which is the team I'm hincha here in Argentina.

I love watching Liverpool, Klopp is awesome, and also it's always fun to listen to him. His Dortumnd was also an incredible team.
i was telling people in spain in 2017 that we had this absolute wunderkind in canada, who was going to be a real player on the world stage, and they didn't believe me...

looking at all those statpalooza data (of which i am exempt cuz i don't log films on letterboxd) i checked how many films i logged in 2020 and KM says 512 (i estimate films longer than 60 min are 111 at BEST).
BUT surprisingly (my memory is short and my distancing from fútbol is (clearly) not complete yet) the very first film i watched in 2020 was about fútbol!
SOCCER AS NEVER BEFORE / FUSSBALL WIE NOCH NIE (Hellmuth Costard, 1971)

one can see fútbol in 1970s was mostly a chaotic pilgrimage on the field with occasional outburst of running (usually just 4-5 meters), accidental scoring and thus being the BEST (loved by the crowds).
btw. as an infant i was rooting for (not surprisingly) Bohemians Prague.
a club with the emblem of kangaroo, a typical animal of the mid-European fauna.
(historically) Bohemians' most shining star was Antonín Panenka, the inventor of the ridiculous "panenka" kick.

I've watched that Best film, something very zen about watching a shaggy guy walking shaggily across a ropey pitch for more than an hour.

normally, i don't have the attention span to watch the whole complex "plot" (the "narrative") of the fútbol match (especially if zero or near to zero goals are scored).
but in this BEST zen film, i was fully immersed in a shaggy persona meditation.
sometimes, i do something like this even at work (or whenever i need to kill time).
i focus on a random person and then minutely observe (in a voyeuristic fashion) his/her every move, every gesture, every grimace, etc, etc.
after a while, i almost feel i can enter this person's mindset.
unfortunately, my memory is short i thus i don't remember anymore what i was "empathizing" George might have been thinking during that particular match.

super bowl sunday, hope brady throws five interceptions
For a while all the top European leagues seemed super competitive and some of them still are but looks like City and Bayern are running away with it as they are wont to do. The unimaginable season without European football is looming large for us Arsenal fans in the meantime, though the level of play has certainly improved since December, so fingers crossed.
SPORTS! Not an exciting game, but an incredible Brady win. The guy’s 43, had played his entire career with the same team, goes to Tampa, no pre-season, and he beats Brees, Rodgers, and Mahomes in the playoffs, plays in his 10th super bowl, and wins his 7th? WHAT? Gronk comes out of retirement and gets two touchdowns? The tempa bay defense played an excellent game too. Just unbelievable.
did mahomes throw for like 9 yards in the first quarter or something like that? hard to believe tampa just stifled the kc offense, though their o-line was playing backups to backups in some spots (and one of their usual starting guards, laurent duvernay-tardif, is a bit of a local hero around here, he not only plays nfl football but he also graduated med school in montreal, and he took this year off to work as a doctor to help fight covid), so their offensive line injuries will probably be one of the post-game storylines.
it's definitely incredible what brady has done, though i don't like the guy, and i kind of feel like the bucs are like the la dodgers, just signing or trading for every big name (brady, gronk, fournette) they could, some of them very flawed people (antonio brown most especially). those don't tend to be teams i like very much.

Yep, Mahomes went for 9 yards in the first quarter, 2-of-8. His offensive line was... offensive. He had a couple of incredible incomplete passes where I thought for sure he was going to get sacked and lose 15-20 yards, and he still managed to hit his guy throwing the ball while falling down. He was running for his life all game long. Still, no touchdowns? Shocking. Tempa Bay definitely went "all in" this season, trying to get pieces to win now. Very often it does not work, but it did!
