um, now everyone is going to yell at me for making them watch this film. pls adjust your expectations downward.

also as some explanation of european economic and social history, it seems overly subtle these days when our prime minister just gives life peerages to cunts

ivanka trump is special adviser to the president? anything is possible now. rush limbaugh got the medal of honor or some shit. the FEMINAZI guy :?

anyways no politics :x (note to self, i'm enjoying a relaxing day off)

dead man's shoes i probably saw at time of release it was terribly overhyped
It is awarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors
edit: it was presidential medal of freedom, now worthless trash (not that it wasn't before but wever)

Some titles from my watchlist:

Aaltra (Benoît Delépine, Gustave Kervern)
The Consequences of Love (Paolo Sorrentino)
Intimate Strangers (Patrice Leconte)
Silver City (John Sayles)

I've seen a clip of Bouli Lanners singing Sunny in Aaltra countless times, guess now is a right time to finally watch the entire film. :)

Shiner - Christian Calson, USA

A queer American pinku, comparable to something like Muscle. Could be my #1 of the year, depending on what else turns up -- I was hugely impressed. All-about some characters who process their ideas on queer identity and queer desire in terms of violence and masculine toxicity, it "goes there" with real ferocity. If Greg Araki had become the figurehead of a movement, there'd be a lot more movies like this one floating around, and I'm sad now that that didn't happen

I can't really say that I 'like' everything about this -- I could give a shit about the fratboy headspace of these characters, and there's no room here for any other concerns to intersect with their cis/het(or not)/white reality -- but within the confines of the things the writer/director chose to think about and do, this movie accomplishes all of its goals pretty excellently. I want to grab WBA and force him to watch it. but I'm not sure who else I'd recommend it to; the actors approach their dialogue as if they were in a porn movie (and maybe they are) and the nonstandard "badness" of the acting is going to put a lot of people off. If you can hack that aspect, and it sounds interesting to you, go for it. Maybe Greg and Greennui, maybe LiquidNature...

The Case of the Grinning Cat (Chris Marker)

Image

I remember saving this exact picture after reading up on Marker after having just seen La Jetée for the first time, like, more than 10 years ago. I kept the picture as a screen saver for a long time and I even used to draw knock offs and variations of the cat when I was still in school. Think I had a copy of the film but with no subs so could never watch it so it feels like I've come full circle and whatnot now after finally seeing it.

Just watched / listened to this for the first time, despite it being on my radar for a decade. Had no clue of its connection and root in 9/11, which is a day I have a powerful connection with myself. Have a feeling this is one I will be rewatching / relistening to perpetually for years to come. Thanks.

The story of the music and the story of the image are both so great and heartbreaking. Them combined, as one piece on decay, is one of my favorite works of art of all time. I don't really listen to it to fall asleep though, it mostly just makes me sad :). Triggering that feeling that everything is just temporary and will end at some point.

Sounds about right.

Wolff Von Amerongen: Did twodeadmagpies Commit Recommendation Offences? (Gerhard Benedikt Friedl)

I really enjoyed it, struggled to follow the rapid-fire dialogue at times though due to being too transfixed by the footage. I'd like to watch it again at some point, perhaps muted to make it a Benning/Hutton type beat.

guys tropical malady is amazing. a very buddhist film (according to me, a non-buddhist.) fear and desire, hunter becomes the prey -- also the camera loves this actor
