thanks for running all the numbers kanafani! a lot of interesting things, even just seeing the variety of films those guys worked on, but also tea and sympathy and the heart is a lonely hunter as two surprise top-rated films for alton and howe. no one guessed those. and i was happy to finally tie for first in most-views for one of our director/actor/cinematographers - that might not happen again. but it seems like i hate a lot of the john alton films i've seen.

Toland smackdown! Though I expected that might actually be the case when I actually rated my films and found I was giving his a lot of ratings higher than 4, which I don't do much. The dude worked on a lot of classics!

There's a bit of built in bias at play with Toland getting more of the high end prestige cinematography jobs and Alton working a lot on the lower end cheaper productions. Howe was all over the place, which is one of the reasons he's got my vote as the best of the three for being able to adapt to such a wide variety of materials with consistently great yet different effect. Still an interesting poll though, glad to have seen it. Always like the polls that seem to bring together a diverse selection of films.
