ok this is a go  wish glenn ford was our president

not terrible for a mainstream blockbuster with international cast (including chuck conners playing a british guy) most of the dialogue is in english but in quite a wide variety of accents. corny melodramatic music etc. reeeeally fake hollywood ending. made me briefly think that things could be a teeeeny bit worse here so i guess mission accomplished

i've haven't looked too hard for simone barbes before now because i kinda thought i'd hate it (given that, with everyone involved -a foolish assumption of incestuous too-cool cynical sidewinks of a pre-bozon school - i should love it) but guess what. i loved it.

Sadly folks an imminent departure on long journey shall terminate my moviewatching, for which shall be substituted foreign cities and landscapes and faces (far preferable to moviewatching to my mind) for foreseeable future. So here's my final year poll for awhile. Peace:

A Distant Cry from Spring (Yamada Yoji)

The Constant Factor (Krzysztof Zanussi)
Build a House, Plant a Tree (Juraj Jakubisko)
Who's Singing over There? (Slobodan Šijan)
Bálint Fábián Meets God (Zoltán Fábri) - my one really excellent saw-for-the-poll
Sunday Daughters (János Rózsa)
Mavka: Song of the Forest (Yuri Ilyenko)
A Strip of Uncut Wildflowers (Ilyenko)
Confidence (Istvan Szabo)
Little Tragedies (Mikhail Shveitser)
Céleste (Percy Adlon)
A Bad Son (Claude Sautet)
Oblomov (Nikita Mikhalkov)
The Beads of One Rosary (Kazimierz Kutz)
Times, Waters (Branko Gapo)
Petria's Wreath (Srđan Karanović)
Pursuit of Death (Im Kwon-taek)
Evening Rain (Wu Yonggang & Wu Yigong)
Gently Was Anastasia Passing (Alexandru Tatos)
A Fox Hunt (Vadim Abdrashitov)

it's always great to have you karl. enjoy your wandering. i'm going to watch a distant cry from spring in your honor :( and also the wildflowers.

currently watching zigeunerweisen. it's difficult to follow over 2.5 hrs and i'm starting to think it's not meant to be 'followed' lol. been awhile since i saw branded to kill.

this dude makes me think of young christoper lee. kind of hot but evil

Image

it's like im kwon-taek's mandala if one of the monks was a complete bastard and possibly a serial killer. very mysterious

I've got this one and Killer Constable cued up for later rather than sooner, but I'm pretty sure I'll get to both of them. You made KC sound right appealing.

I might regret it later, but this is one of those years where I'm catching up on mainstream blockbusters that I'm not always sure if I've seen and others I know I haven't. I'll be watching Friday The 13th before the year's Ruiz. :? And three (3) that I picked out of thoxan's rec.s, which I think is a first.

have a great trip karl, and good to see you again! and if you have a top 50 film list lying around, i'd love to count it as part of our annual scfz top 100 films poll: https://scfzforum.org/phpBB3/viewtopic. ... 2&start=30

hope you'll be back someday, i've discovered a lot of great films from your lists.

Nah, just the standard-issue theatrical release. If the revised version is special, you'll tell us about it, yes?

according to lencho bona is on YT. but i cant find it. can anyone pm me a link to a non shitty version with subs? but only if it's easy, no bother uploading stuff, i've got enough to watch as it is, but...if it's just obvious and i'm missing it...

instead i have a ryazanov (who made office romance, my fave romantic comedy)

also i've decided along with sea movies i really like movies about postal workers/mail. nothing to do with the bottom stamping scene in closely watched trains/he jianjun's postman. anything spring to mind for 1980???

I tried searching for it now, it shows up if you search for it on youtube but not if you search for it via google search. The quality isn't that great though and it's got French hardcoded subs.

There's likely to be some kind of passable tv rip available, but I wouldn't say it was worth the trouble, even if it is Servando Gonzalez. The only thing I remember about the movie is that it had wild chimpanzees living in the Chiapas rain forest. Typical late-seventies failing-industry "churro."
