What should I watch from Brisseau's early films? I've just seen a few of his recent dirty-old-man films, which I dislike, to put it mildly, but I gather his less porny works are esteemed around here.

All I've seen are two of his dirty old man films (Noce Blanche and Un Jeu Brutal) and I loved them. What are some other dirty old man films of his I can watch?

I have Les Ombres downloaded and have been meaning to get to it for a while

those aren't the dirty old man films! the dirty old man films are the ones he started making with secret things in 2002.

I was a big Dr. John fan ever since I was a kid and decided Right Place, Wrong Time was my first "favorite song". I saw him a couple time in concert and he didn't disappoint. I remember being pleased to see he even tried his hand at that new "rap" thing the kids were into in the eighties, I mean in his own Dr John way of course.

Ugh they're probably gonna make it impossible to sync podcasts onto my old ipod. One more piece in the conspiracy to get me to buy a smartphone.

Oh no... I've seen lots of Edith Scob's movies, but I first noticed her in Raul Ruiz's Comedy of Innocence, where she projects a unique sort of spookiness. I've never forgotten her name since.

Edward Branigan. Wrote a bit back and forth with him last year during my thesis and have read most of his stuff so I'm somewhat affected by this. He was a pretty unique character in film studies.

RIP Freddie Jones -- Bytes in Lynch's ELEPHANT MAN, and one of the great actors in movies. I'm devastated. Whether telling Richard Harris to cut the blue wire in JUGGERNAUT or commenting to Cage and Dern in WILD AT HEART that "Pigeons spread diseases and mess up the place" he was always a joy to behold.

Rutger Hauer in an Ermanno Olmi film?? Whoa, I gotta check that out :-o

The last film I saw Hauer in was Surviving the Game (1994), a pretty good pulpy riff on The Most Dangerous Game.

i have to agree with most pts in brodeacon's review above. rutger is very pretty for someone who lives on the streets. but this is why we love him?

the dubbing and the MUSIC are real problems. the cinematography is not. i'd forgotten i have flesh+blood too. maybe i shoulda watched that

Oh no, Rutger!! Thought he would live to be at least 90, but probably 100. Well...

One of my favorite actors, definitely one of the best (and for me also by far one of the sexiest).

Has acted in many favorite films of mine, and I will actually watch anything with Rutger in it, cause even in the shitty films, he at least is great. Sooooo many films of his still to explore. :cowboy:

My favorite film and favorite Rutger performance is the West German DER WILDE BLONDE MIT DER HEISSEN MASCHINE aka "Dandelions" from 1974, which is also the best film from masterful director Adrian Hoven. I'll never forget my first 35mm screening of this incredible work!

Thank you Rutger for just having been there, and having done all those films!

Haven't seen this one yet, but FLESH + BLLOD is fantastic, Rischka! Also it has Jennifer Jason Leigh in it.

And on his looks and stuff: his enigmatic presence and his eyes already make my knees week, my head spin, and my stomach and other lower regions feel like butterflies are flying through jelly. And that's way before he starts to speak with that incredible voice of his...
So, yes, I would, most definitely, and absolutely.
