i read some reviews saying this was shown in schools in germany to teach kids about the nazis so yeah

I haven't seen anything by Autaunt-Lara, yet, so how I'll react to that will be very interesting for me in the future.

I should add that I was being a little unfair to Autant-Lara, he has a couple of films I'd consider great, especially Douce.

Even Christian-Jaque made some films I'd consider great.

I did, however, see Clair's The Lace Wars, and damn, so state and flat for what's meant to be a silly adventure comedy. (The rape/sexual assault jokes doesn't help, but I doubt most of the new wavers cared about that in the 60s)

Ok, that doesn't sound quite as threatening.

And, incredible as it may sound, I haven't seen anything by Christian-Jaque, yet!

I also haven't seen "Lace Wars", but yes, the sexist stuff probably didn't bother anyone in France. And it probably can't be worse than Godard, I'd think (easily the most sexist prominent French filmmaker from the 60s I'm currently aware of).
