Huh what does russiagate have to do with this? If anything, on a certain level, “stop the steal” is for republicans what russiagate was for democrats.

It is not surprising that police and national security institutions have a built-in reactionary bias. After all that is what they’re there for: protect the system from any force that wants to change it or topple it. From their point of view, BLM is a threat, so is “antifa”, so are anti-war folks, so are environmentalists, etc. Bur maga psychos are not, as they basically want nothing to ever change. In a sense maga psychos are the system, but with the polite nice mask off.

The scary thing is that we’ve been pumping literally hundreds of billions of dollars into these reactionary institutions for years, and we’ll continue to do so. Biden will probably react to all this by injecting tons of money into some “domestic anti-terrorism” endeavor. Take a wild guess as to what those dollars will eventually be deployed for. Keep financing the monster that will eat us alive one day. And you can depend on the mainstream media (which is a thing that exists in reality, not a right wing invention, sorry) to never seriously challenge all this.

As long as both parties are essentially corporatist entities that serve the status quo and keep money rolling to the army and police and vested interests etc, these armed reactionary state groups won’t have much incentive to force things. I think Bannon's vision for the way Trumpism would evolve was based on economic populism, but in the end he lost out to the more traditional hawkish / big corporate wing of the party. So I feel like what Arkadin is saying makes a lot of sense, the culture war comes first with these people, anything to own the libs. But of course both parties rarely get beyond lip service when it comes to making working class people's lives meaningfully better, it's just that the Democrats usually aren't actively harmful in the way that Republicans are, they're just mostly useless.
