i'm fairly sure i used to see his name written 'schlorndorff' frequently (and i thought "ö" was more often transliterated "or" than "oe" but i've seen both) but checking imdb and letterboxd, everyone is using the o+umlaut so i've fixed the opening post. and i could be wrong about everything else, my recollection of german is hazy.

and a reminder: in the new free-for-all nomination system, if you want to propose a director:

• suggest them in an open director poll thread to find out if they have enough views (they need 10+ from one person and 7+ from two others, your views count)
• check the replies. if the director has enough views, make a post to let me know, and i'll add the director to the list of upcoming polls

that is: if you want a director poll to run, then you just need to check if that director has the views (i'm not doing that right now) and then let me know!

I checked all nominations for next poll and it looks like John Sturges and Jim Jarmusch are above the necessary margin, so is Litvak and Neame.I guess now it is up to Curtis or St. Gloede, who suggested them, to pick one. Unless, of course, Flip wants to take a break from running director polls.

it can't hurt to start up a new poll and we can get to the other directors next time, i think i'll just start a poll of the first director you mentioned, and then anyone can suggest our next poll in that thread
