fascinating stuff, thanks for running the numbers kanafani!

that 'scfz top 100' list looks way more like a 'true' scfz top 100 (by which i mean: a reflection of the kinds of films we talk about most around here) than the 'official' lists we arrive at by running polls where everyone posts a ballot. not sure if you were planning to post it to letterboxd, but if not, i'd be happy to - i think it would be interesting to a lot of people.

Thanks, Flip! Yes, I plan to create a couple of letterboxd lists from this data. Stay tuned!

Here is the top 100 SCFZ highest rated directors. Only directors who received at least 20 ratings qualify.

oooo, interesting, thanks kanafani. i'm taking lots (more) recs from these. we're horribly stereotypical of 'arthouse' fans, aren't we? i bet wba is gonna be disappointed in us. and i need to rerate some (lots of) films, clearly.

what was wrong with the kiarostami? (24 frames) haven't seen it but was planning to...

twodeadmagpies raises an interesting question - i don't see our list as 'stereotypically arthouse', it seems more idiosyncratically scfz to me, but maybe i'm wrong! it might be interesting to see how much our list overlaps with some 'arthouse canon' list (like our top 1000 and the TSPDT 1000? i don't really know what existing list represents the arthouse 'canon' well), and also to see where we most diverge from the canon - which films we rate lowest that fare well on canon-type lists. not sure if that's easy to do though!

Dil se made it to the 90s top 100. It does not make the overall top 100 if you look at all available ratings, but it was one of the most highly rated movies in 2018.

The SCFZ top 1000 and TSPDT top 1000 seem to have 350 movies in common, so 65% of our list is not in TSPDT. ~55 movies from the SCFZ top 100 are not on the TSPDT top 1000 list.

Our lists would look very different depending on the ratings threshold I use (i.e. the minimum number of ratings required for a movie to qualify). I suspect that our list will start looking much more stereotypical if I increase the threshold. It will look more eccentric (or downright bizarre) if I decrease the threshold.

A movie that's rated 4.68 by 11 people is going to be nearer the stereotypical canon than a movie given that rating by 4 people. The quickest way to make our list more conventional would be to weight the scoring to reflect rating in tandem with number of viewers, granting importance to both factors.

I like the top 100 list quite a lot actually. It’s got an intersting balance to it.

The top 100 sorta does capture a pretty good cross section of the stuff people are interested in here, though it still could stand to be polished a bit, way too much Wiseman and Rivette for example which distorts things a bit. Still not too bad of a representation of the site overall I'd say, at least in broad terms.

The 21st century one is fun, a few weird surprising inclusions, Rango, Cloudy with Chance of Meatballs stand out, though I like both well enough myself. SPL2 now interests me and I was quite pleased to see Wu Yen sneak in at spot 100. I'm not sure Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is better than Baahubali: The Beginning, but I'll take either without complaint. Not sure about Planet Earth though, kind of an outsider for being a TV series.

How about a list of all movies logged by every single member? Or at least 25+ members... that seems to be the max? I'm surprised someone here hasn't seen Vertigo, but I wonder which movies are so popular that everyone's watched them.

As always thanks for the fascinating stats. I'll try not to miss any chances to expand my viewing % of the top 100. So far only 56%, and 29% for this century. The lists are better than most I've seen.
