Well, Youtube has been recommending me a lot of this "Japanese" stuff for a few years now, so I figured I could give it a listen, since I love minimal music and 80s music in general.
Was my first Yoshimura, and it was a great listening experience for the past 2 weeks.
I'm sure I'll check out more of his stuff in the future. Definitely relaxing stuff!
I only listen to albums when I am not doing anything else, which means I'm usually not listening to albums a lot. I also try to give an album I'm listening to at least 4 to 5 complete "spins", usually more, so that I get a feel for it and can engage with the experience on various levels. So this was only my 6th album I "completed" this year.

^ good stuff! there's about a 1-in-200 chance i'll like any album made in the year 20XX - and thus not disgust and repulse whoever recommended it to me - but this album seems like #200. or maybe #1, depending on how you look at it

i love "m7jpqc1CVYw" too
what's interesting is that between 1986 and 1993 the man released at least 15 albums, under 5 different names, and with at least 5 different genres and 10 different styles between them. so some people only like one thing he did, and some another... but mostly nobody knows who on earth ed ball is, so for the most part no one likes any of them

I was on vacation and listened to lots of music, much of it excellent. But there were only 2 albums I managed to listen to numerous times and "finish" for me (for the time being). One was LITTLE EARTHQUAKES (1992) by Tori Amos, which was good, but nothing special, and nowhere as interesting as I remembered (I think one song on the album is very good, the rest are good to decent). It was fun listening again to something from my youth in the 90s, but Amos is no Kate Bush (which is written all over this record - up to a point where it almost feels like Amos is imitating/channeling/plagiarizing Bush - which is good though, cause I love Bush), and this is mostly stuff for teenagers/"young adults". But the orchestrations and the mastering of almost everything except Tori's singing is lame. Her voice is pretty great, though. The other one was SOMMERSBY (1993) by Danny Elfman, which I had been listening to for over a year now, and which is exceptional. Probably his best stuff I know so far, though it gets a bit (too) repetitive as the album goes on and in this vein the last 3 tracks could have probably been left off the record.

I need to listen to some of that stuff!
This month I've been checking out 3 albums:
Endless Tide – Tomoyuki Asakawa (1993)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja1JVEPfexg
I don't know how many times I've listened to this, but it feels like endless times... I love harp music, so this is fantastic!
------
I also did a re-listen of this album, which seems even better than a few months ago when I listened to this album every day for almost a month like exclusively. Masterwork!!!
Flora – Hiroshi Yoshimura (1987)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6n4FpHbqZs
-----
I also listened a lot to an old favorite from my youth, which was even better than I remembered, as well. Hadn't listened to this extensively for decades and Elfman is truly wonderful.
Edward Scissorhands – Danny Elfman (1990)

not sure what to think of the new tindersticks, it's definitely a lockdown record whatever they say. i liked stuart staples rudimentary drum loops better on his first solo album than here, where they feel a little...cheap? don't care for either of the long songs that bookend the record. i don't think his cover of the great dory previn's lady with the braid works - it is a song about a woman disguising a manic episode with one night stand flirting, and stuart staples can't do manic - but i am glad one of my favorite unknown songs gets attention.
