i'm a bit more lax about the criteria now, but we'd need a bit more araki viewership to go ahead. i thought bure might have seen a lot?

if anyone has seen 8+ of rosi, takahata or jee-woon (i really need to learn what names are first and last in korean naming, sorry if i keep messing that up) they could be options if araki isn't going to work, i've seen 3, 1 and 1 respectively so can't help... would be surprised if jee-woon kim has the views, but rosi or takahata might

I have 7 each for Rosi and Takahata, and can watch 1-3 more before a poll starts on Tuesday. I can do the same for Kim Jee-woon, but I only have 5 already.

it looks like rosi has slightly more views than araki, so i think we'll do a rosi poll now, and we can do araki in a round or two, when it might be the case that people have seen a bit more of his work

Yup, it's Kim.

Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Hungarian put the surname before the personal name. English tends to respect the order in Korean and Chinese (Hong Sang-soo, Zhang Yimou) but we reverse the order of Japanese and Hungarian names (Yasujiro Ozu, Miklos Jancso) to suit our convention.

since we have a korean member on the forum (ofrene), we should be able to get this right :)

And then weebs like me sometimes put Japanese surnames first, to honour them over our own conventions, and it's all a jumble!

(Are you part Hungarian? I've never known anyone who knows anything much about the place without having roots from there...)

Not that I know of. I've been there a couple times though. By the way, the National Film Institute of Hungary has put some Hungarian films w/ English subtitles online during the pandemic:

Thanks for sharing, some good selections on there!

For anyone wanting to download any for future watching like I did:
- Use a vimeo to mp4 converter (such a vimeo-downloader) to find the actual mp4 link (click on video mp4 file), save the video as an mp4
- to get the English subtitle file, play the video with english subs on, right click > inspect element/page source > network > all > locate the .vtt texttrack in the network stream > copy that url > save page as an .srt
