we just watched one of his columbos (any old port in a story) and of course it's one of the best of the whole series...

I just saw her last month at the Berlinale, where she premiered her last film. She seemed slow and stiff, but otherwise really lively. I'm so sad to hear this, I really hoped she'd pull a Manoel de Olvieria on us and direct into her 100s.

Aw, shucks. The "Island Of Dr. Death" / "Death Of Dr. Island" guy? He fell off my radar decades ago, maybe I missed out. I still have lots of Lafferty to catch up on...

yeah, his work sort of became more slight over the last decade, probably right after 2005 or so (not bad per se, just not executed with the same density as what had come before) but there was always something truly interesting in there. still have lots to read, including the 'book of the short sun' trilogy...
