Seen 19. When his sappy, preachy gambles work, remarkably the majority of the time, he's one of my favourites. A good comedian, though I tend to prefer Lloyd's character and maybe Keaton too to the comedy produced by The Tramp. When 'Charlie Chaplin, International Movie Star' becomes the implicit character/soapbox-speaker of his films rather than the Tramp, that's more my speed.

1. Monsieur Verdoux (1947)
2. Modern Times (1936)
3. City Lights (1931)
4. The Pilgrim (1923)
5. Behind the Screen (1916)

Of course, he made more than 5 great films: Gold Rush and Great Dictator could just as easily get my vote.

Great one, Joks. I would have picked Tony Scott next. I think I’ve seen all of his films.

Tony might not be admired universally as much as his brother, but I think he defined action filmmaking of the 80s-2000s.

I haven't seen his films in years but he's essential in my cinephilia.

Unfortunately not so admired on this forum. I picked Ridley Scott a few rounds ago and got an almost universally lukewarm response. Oh well. Let's see if Tony does better.
