Used to really like Kubrick, and still today I see most of his films as masterpieces. But recently I've noticed myself becoming more indifferent. Maybe it's because I've been yearning more for humanity in cinema recently, idk.

It is a bit of a surprise, but also is, as nrh says, something of the direction Kubrick appreciation seems to be going, and from my view, for the good.

maybe i should have explained what i meant. if you look at the last three scfz top 100 films of all time polls, 2001 has ranked 2nd, 8th and 3rd. eyes wide shut made the list once, in 41st last year. barry lyndon has never registered. so any previous time those films have been eligible for the same scfz poll, 2001 has won in a landslide. knowing the reputation barry lyndon has in similar communities, i've maybe found those results a bit surprising, but i was expecting something similar to happen again, so the results of this poll were unexpected to me.

Barry Lyndon never registered? That's sort of a surprise since it had a strong following over at Mubi, well, a somewhat contentious one though, where some found it by far the best while others were less certain about it. 2001 is the least contentious Kubrick film I think, maybe Strangelove right next to it with the only difference being in those who don't think it's funny, which is all too often the sole measure used for ranking comedies, laughter being like a on/off switch determination of quality I guess.
Given how close the voting was, I don't really see the top three films having any notable difference given how it's often been noted people sometimes vote the less famous film first just to get it points. I was surprised by Eyes beating out Lyndon and 2001, third or fourth wouldn't have been a shock, though I wouldn't have bet on even that, but first was unexpected. I'm just glad to see Clockwork and Shining further down the list than the four chosen for the top spots.
