Re: Six degrees of celluloid separation
Is there a reason we're not using the question I posed when I posted the last winning answer?
The opposite of 'reify' is... ?
I didn't see it!
Jean Harlow to Eva Mattes? I'm on it...

Maybe you did, maybe that's the reason I was looking for. Did your AI solution trump the fact that I was the first person to devise an answer that answered Greg's question?

I'm looking for a way to include the code (calling it AI gives it too much credit) in this game. It took me effort to write it, and it was the thing that started the thread in the first place, and I think it would be interesting to include it in some shape or form. I suggested something a couple of responses ago. Do you agree with it? Can you help us with another suggestion? Anyone else has a brilliant idea, please chime in too. If there is really distaste for the code, then I guess I'll give up.Lencho_of_the_Apes wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2019 9:29 pmMaybe you did, maybe that's the reason I was looking for. I dunno, I don't mind the code, but I'm really stuck on Harlow to Mattes. Hint? Does it involve Enemy at the Gates? Does it involve Mickey Rooney? Does it involve Dean Stockwell somehow?

I haven't mapped one out, I left it open-ended. How long is the shortest you've found? Can anyone find one shorter?
The opposite of 'reify' is... ?
I've found several involving four films, e.g.
Harlow and Mickey Rooney are both in reckless
Rooney and Ben Stiller in night at the museum
Stiller and Rachel Weisz in envy
Weisz and mattes in enemy at the gates
As EatG immediately puts mattes in Hollywood and Mickey Rooney made movies into the 2000s there are a ton of solutions that start and end like that

There are also a lot using Dean Stockwell eg
Harlow and beery in lots
Beery and Stockwell in the mighty McGuirk
Stockwell and Ed Harris in buffalo soldier
Harris and mattes in EatG

Four's pretty damn good, I doubt anyone can beat that. Confirm by running the code and get ready to suggest your question again? Give it some time for other people to try their hands, I guess...

Okay but do they involve Enemy at the Gates? Mickey Rooney? Dean Stockwell? I don't want to give up; I am the Dwight Schrute of this celly sep shit and I really believe I can tie (and thus beat) the AI. But I want to know if I'm on the right track.
A couple of them do include Enemy at the Gates, yes. Didn't stumble upon Rooney or Stockwell though. I can give you another hint when you want it
bure, u still trying to get this one?
Have been trying! My efforts have been fruitless. I've looked at so many paths... Kinski, Fassbinder, Walter Pidgeon, Grant, Gable... I give up!
Eva Mattes was in Enemy at the gates...
whose composer was James Horner...
who also composed the music for Testament (1983)...
which starred Leon Ames...
who also stars in Reckless (1935)...
along with Jean Harlow.
Here is another one involving Enemy at the gates. It does not count because anthology movie, but it involves your buddy James Stewart:
Eva Mattes was in Enemy at the gates...
whose composer was James Horner...
who also composed the music for An American Tail: Fievel Goes Wes...
which starred James Stewart...
who shows up in Brother Can you spare a dime?...
along with Jean Harlow.
Go ahead and pick the next one!
