Watched almost nothing, but did find a new fav in
Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay. Sapphic paradise — not a horror movie at all, unless being granted eternal youth by a trustworthy domme witch and having lots of soft lesbian sex with all your compatriot lesbians is not Every Girl's Dream

Watched MEGAN, the little horror about the mechanical doll who grows out of her creators' control. Done with enough wit and intelligence to make me not entirely mind how predictable it really is.

My wife and I have done a good job of hitting nearly a horror film per day.
We've only watched two that I found actually kind of scary. Demian Rugna's Terrified and Damian Mc Carthy's Caveat
So clearly the Damians are winning this October.
But John Grissmer's Scalpel was a standout for me too. Would not be at all surprised to find out it was an influence on Almodovar for The Skin I Live In

The Sadist (1963) was a pretty decent cheap, gritty tension piece.

some b movies
beast from haunted cave (monte hellman 1959) very unscary monster but hellman adds a lot of interesting character development, in a beat direction
it! the terror from beyond space (edward l cahn 1958) sorta proto-alien? rubber suit man creeps onto the ship and starts killing off crew members. i don't think i've seen astronauts smoking in space before? also firing guns probably not a good idea?
el charro de las calaveras/the rider of the skulls (alfredo salazar 1965) features a masked hero fighting werewolves, vampires and the headless horseman! cheap but enjoyable
the grim reaper (ron ormond 1976) is actually a Christian movie about what happens if you don't accept jesus as your personal saviour! stay for the lake of fire

La noche del terror ciego (armando de ossorio 1972) aka tombs of the blind dead is better than i expected! tbh after the first half hour i was ready to turn it off. lots of misogyny. the humans are almost as creepy as the zombies. but the zombies were very creepy! and that music...

what no scary movies!? i enjoyed goke, bodysnatcher from hell (hajime sato 1968) with it's charming low tech effects and weird vagina-head monsters
ok it's basically scifi. now i'm watching found footage noroi: the curse (koji shiraishi 2005) which i had to turn off the other night cuz it was too scary

Had planned to watch many horror films this month but I've been busy and not really in the mood for films, it's a shame as I usually allocate all my horror watches to October.

Oh hi, Rischka and everyone!
Sorry for missing out for most of
Spooktober.
I've been watching plenty of horror films this month and made some brilliant discoveries.
Favorites from the month of horrors so far:
The Spiral Staircase (Robert Siodmak, 1946) 9/10
The Spiral Staircase is another great film by Siodmak. Beautifully photographed and lit.
Fresh (Mimi Cave, 2022) 8/10
Homicidal (William Castle, 1961) 8/10
Lamb (Valdimar Jóhannsson, 2021) 8/10
Five (Arch Oboler, 1951) 7/10
Black Friday (Arthur Lubin, 1940) 7/10
The Hitcher (Robert Harmon, 1986) 7/10
The Black Castle (Nathan Juran, 1952) 7/10
Flesh and Fantasy (Julien Duvivier, 1943) 7/10
Carry On Screaming! (Gerald Thomas, 1966) 7/10
The Curse of the Cat People (Robert Wise, Gunther von Fritsch, 1944) 7/10
Orca (Michael Anderson, 1977) 6/10
Black Rainbow (Mike Hodges, 1989) 6/10
Night Has a Thousand Eyes (John Farrow, 1948) 6/10
The Man Who Could Cheat Death (Terence Fisher, 1959) 6/10

I'm also watching
Abbott and Costello horror flicks. Films aren't great, but their antics are still funny.

sleepaway camp (1983) didn't do it for me, i guess i see why people like it. shocking twist (TM) and 1983 seems like centuries ago
the children (2008) this british film is doing the trick of ¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (1976). cute evil is the worst.
it occured to me it played like a weird abortion revenge fantasy but i don't wanna think about it too hard. possible pro/anti-vax mssg as well?

Longlegs was huge letdown ;ㅁ; eerie atmosphere, cage's crazy performance can't save empty horror procedural
