upon checking have seen surprisingly few Morricone scores. The De Palma collabs stand out most to me--Untouchables, Casualties of War, and Mission to Mars

Oh no.... I had hoped she'd keep going. 104 is pretty impressive though. RIP ODH.

Alan Parker, 76

I remember in 2015 I visited an exhibition at BFI that featured his working papers, sketches and scripts. In 2018, he donated his entire archive collection to BFI.

I love his film Angel Heart. Need to watch Midnight Express and Mississippi Burning.

RIP Alan Parker, I guess. I'll stick my neck out for SHOOT THE MOON, which struck me at the time as the best of the Family Collapsing genre of the early 80s -- Finney's tears on the staircase, Keaton lighting up in the bathtub. I wonder how it holds up.

On the other hand, I'll never forgive or forget the ludicrous ANGEL HEART, seen in first release and probably the first time I saw through the whodunit structure so early in a movie, and had nothing else to do but watch the foolishness unfold for another hour forty five. And foolish it is. I've never been able to take Mickey Rourke seriously since -- his final meltdown is one of the funniest things in english-language cinema.

hilarious. shoulda retired under obama. i can see the republicans now: 'normally we're against supreme court appointments in an election year, but the radical liberals have treated this president unfairly from the very beginning, and we can't abide the possibility of extreme leftists joe biden and kamala harris pushing this country further away from real american values by giving them the slightest chance of appointing a justice. we must fill this vacancy, and we must fill it now with the most rightwing patriotic candidate that we can possibly find'

You mean She didn't win the popular vote by a margin of three gajillion? And there were no states so heavily weighted in one direction or the other that individual votes didn't matter?

Fine. Fuck me. And I'm too good to vote for Biden, so fuck me twice.

Until you recognize that the real enemy is the stratum of embedded politicians that create situations in which no good choices exist, fuck you too.

PS: Why do D Senators vote in favor of Trump's appointments? There are only 4 out of how-many that have shown any steel in voting against them.

don't forget all the carefully targeted voter disenfranchisement...

So its hopeless. No wonder people think I'm a fool for caring.

i don't think it's foolish to care! i just think it's frustrating that you have all of these systemic issues, a democratic party that thinks nominating hilary of all people in 2016 was a good idea, and you get "why aren't x group of people voting more?" and "it's bernie's/green party's/etc" fault as this constant refrain from the party.

I always vote the furthest left i can if we don't vote then what is the plan. Those tankies on Twitter thinking they can overthrow a fascist regime are more foolish than me. I wont vote again because I don't think we'll have another 'reasonably' free election and I guess I was dumb to think we ever had one. Bernie voters got a second chance and even less of them showed up. Black people don't trust us enough to vote for him and well they shouldn't, i can tell u from trumpland. Anyway i may quit my job and find some way to fight. I can't just give up. You do realize that four more years of trump spells death for the planet if its not already too late. Just glad I dont have kids in this fucked up world

sorry for my meltdown. i'll stay away for awhile

this is why we don't have a politics thread here :|

Sanders did spectacularly well in the first three contests and then the fix went in. FIFY.

Democrats are dead to me. Peoples' Party 2024.

Trump won last time because people either didn't vote or voted for a third party candidate.

If Trump wins again, it'll be for the same reason. I hate people who don't vote, and also people who vote for a third party, almost as much as I hate Trump and all his cronies.

People who don't vote deserve that their country becomes unliveable, they deserve to live in the worst fucking hell-hole on earth. I wish every person in America that doesn't vote, or votes for a third party, the most painful and miserable life over the next four years. You deserve everything you get, you fucking idiots. You're absolute cunts, all of you!

ok pabs simmer down. everyone has their reasons and this isn't a politics thread. nor should we have one. i regret starting this

am i right in thinking voting is compulsory in australia. GOP would never win another election. mandatory voting would be decried as against 'freedom' etc (like mask-wearing)
