Banner competition
My only complaint about the banner is that the "SCFZ" should be at the upper left, as if the two are walking towards it, rather than the lower right, where it seems like they're trying to get away from us. But, then again, that might be the more realistic decision, complaint withdrawn.

am i the lone freak here who thinks we should just use a banner (one of these banners; they look great) without including the SCFZ lettering...? feels like we're trying to stake some claim on these movies, or on movies in general. a little bit aggressive. could just stick up the image with no lettering, and it would be nice and serene
Good idea!Holymanm wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 6:41 am am i the lone freak here who thinks we should just use a banner (one of these banners; they look great) without including the SCFZ lettering...? feels like we're trying to stake some claim on these movies, or on movies in general. a little bit aggressive. could just stick up the image with no lettering, and it would be nice and serene

Day of the Outlaw?
Greennui, I love the Rohmer banner. Also from 1996 like our current banner so we can just stick with that year.
something from Anthony Mann, with James Stewart maybe?
Edit: nah, Day of the Outlaw it was.

I'm partial to the Rohmer, personally. It's very comforting. Curious to hear what others think.

I like them both (though Bay of Angels didn't do a huge amount for me, it's a nice image) but my vote goes to the Rohmer with the text.
I like the Demy the most, though the Yang is close, I'd like that one better if the SCFZ was moved off the tree to the far right, maybe bottom, or possibly upper left next to the tree and possibly in a different color since the white seems a bit strong for the image. (For me, the SCFZ is necessary since that's the only identifier of the site, with it not "claiming" the image, but expressing an affinity for its like.)
It looks great on my phone!

For what it's worth, I like both the Yang and the Demy a lot, but not the Rohmer. The Rohmer feels romantically-sexually suggestive, which for me at least isn't something I'm eager to be reminded of every time I log in.
I reckon you'd like Demy, not necessarily the big musicals he's most known for but rather the smaller melancholic films like Model Shop and Bay of Angels.
while the yang hints at impending murder... still like jeanne the best
i do love that tree tho ♥

Gosh what talent and good taste (i.e., my taste! ) we have here. Every single one of those banners is beautiful. Soft spot for the Rohmer - coz it's one of my favourite films ever. (Margot!! Je t'aime!! )
I really like the new banner, nice and restful to see the green and the tree when I log on, regardless of any impending tragedy within the film. Heh.
very nice new banner!
I only don't like the SCFZ thing on it, but so far I never notice it while being on the site, so it's very unobtrusive.

should we have a Fall/Scary Movie Month themed banner?
