tennessee is maybe the only movie where i don't mind reagan, if only because everyone in late dwan acts like an alien anyway (although payne is much better at playing into this than ronnie is) and the two male leads are so ambiguous in so many ways...do wish we can get a decent print of it one day, or there would be some sort of revival screening (i missed the dwan series at moma because of work), because even in this format the alton photography is really something...

strange to think back and realize that the 2000 election was the first political event i was old enough to be really follow (i'm in my mid '30s), and both the supreme court's decision and the dem party followup (not to mention the cowardly approval of the iraq war) was enough to delegitimize both institutions in my mind...and of course the wave of happiness with obama's victory quickly turned sour with the botched response to the financial collapse and the disastrous attempt to pass market based healthcare reform...so it's not a surprise to see a lack of any serious opposition at all but still very disheartening.

the gop primary will be a shitshow no matter what, but i don't think it will particularly harm them.

biden really shouldn't run, but he will anyway. not sure they have anyone else in the party who seems like a natural candidate.
