Not listed here are six films I rewatched, which is too many, I think. I should have watched at least a few never-befores in place of them.

I caught 49 films in July. Far less hectic than the last few months, but still a large number. It was also a month filled with great discoveries amidst lukewarm disappointments, and even caught two new (lesser) favourites.

There were 3 key trends this month:

- 40s (sadly poorly represented among my favourites)
- Early 2010s (Big titles I missed)
- Brazil (Sudden focus of the last week, and will likely carry-on into August)

The month started very poorly, with many miscellaneous films I had been meaning to see falling short. I even had to suffer through a tragically poor Masumura (Super Express). However, as I focused in on bigger titles, as well as a great cinema nation I have seen far too little from, I was set.

Top viewings:

9s
Paris vu par... (1965, Douchet, Marker, Pollet, Rohmer, Godard & Chabrol) (l) (l)
Tomboy (2011, Céline Sciamma) (l) (l)

8.5s
A Margem (1967, Ozualdo Ribeiro Candeias)
Meteorango Kid: Herói Intergalático (1969, André Luiz Oliveira)
Le gamin au vélo / The Kid with a Bike (2011, The Dardenne Brothers)
Noite Vazia / Men and Women (1964, Walter Hugo Khouri)
Ala-Arriba! (1942, José Leitão de Barros)

8s
Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? (1966, William Klein)
La proie pour l'ombre / Shadows of Adultery (1961, Alexandre Astruc)
Eles Não Usam Black-Tie / They Don't Wear Black Tie (1981, Leon Hirszman)
L'enfant (2005, The Dardenne Brothers)
O Homem do Pau-Brasil / The Brazilwood Man (1982, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade)
Toda Nudez Será Castigada / All Nudity Shall Be Punished (1973, Arnaldo Jabor)
La venganza (1958, Juan Antonio Bardem)
O Rei da Noite / King of the Night (1975, Hector Babenco)
A Rainha Diaba / The Devil Queen (1974, Antonio Carlos da Fontoura)
