THE IRISHMAN at 10:30 this morning, because when the only non-sold-out screening of THE IRISHMAN is at 10:30 a.m. on the next to last day of your staycation, you go see THE IRISHMAN at 10:30 a.m. on the next to last day of your staycation.

Second screening of THE IRISHMAN made me eager for a third viewing of THE IRISHMAN.

I'm jealous too. In Vilnius two biggest cinemas are members of VUE and AMC theater chains, and given that these groups don't show Netflix, there has never been a Netflix film screening in Vilnius.

Sorry to inspire jealousy -- it's one of those "Why I Continue To Live In NYC" things. And I'll note the behavior of the audience at both screenings. Absolute silence throughout, punctuated by occasional laughter at the funny bits. Such a change from the usual.

And tomorrow -- PARASITE.

Funny -- The Irishman and Parasite are the two headlining COMING ATTRACTIONS at the arthouse in this sleepy Southwestern town.

That new Blu-Ray of an apparently fabulous restoration of Wegener's THE GOLEM will be finding its way into my player in the coming days, I suspect.

RAGING BULL at the Museum of the Moving Image, for free, a series of Free Scorsese Mondays -- coming up is GOODFELLAS on the 9, CASINO on the 16, and THE IRISHMAN on the 23.

Birds Of Passage

Hey, Rischka, I noticed you watchlisted this... GET ON IT, it's so you. I was planning to open a thread called "Recommendations for specific members" to push Knife + Heart to WBA and this one to you. I haven't watched it yet, and I don't know where it goes in the later sections, but the beginning is totally ethno and pretty gynocentric -- it's set in tribal-outback Colombia, but it could be North Africa or anywhere colorful.

i actually really like this idea for a thread. even tho we're all superchamps, there's def still a very diverse and eclectic taste in films amongst all the individual members. i'd def have diff recs for rischka than i would for wba than i would for nrh than i would for kanafani. the only similarity is that none of them would like my recs :caress:

One of my most anticipated films. It will be screened at my local film festival in March. Can't wait! I absolutely loved previous film by Kleber Mendonça Filho - Aquarius. One of the best films of the decade. Splendid performance by Sonia Braga. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it.

I, for one, still need to watch his debut feature Neighboring Sounds.

The San Francisco Silent Film Festival's Day Of Silents is pretty much what I'm going to be checking out next -- a day of cool cool stuff, culminating in that old warhorse THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on that big fucking screen.

(cue "Hey, Mikey!" sample)

I'll have to look up his comments; I'd certainly want to know what he thought of the Colombia-specific content. What I've read from Javier lately, though, seems to be really rigid and doctrinaire, like he's not going to approve of anything that isn't planned out schematically in perfect accordance with radical praxis. Straub-Huillet Or Bust! That isn't a critical position I can get much out of, until it becomes exactly the one thing I need to see (and then I'd certainly go looking for him as a source of that.)
