Dang, I thought of Liquid Sky with the first still, but I didn't remember the lens distortion.

Wouldn't be the underrated masterpiece a summer place would it?

Damn it! I wanted to at least get to post a couple more stills before someone guessed it. But, yes, it is indeed A Summer Place and I dig it muchly along with the other Daves of similar ilk, like Parrish and Susan Slade.

Well, here's a couple I was debating for the next clue anyway just for the heck of it.

It's insanely good. Daves is so versatile it borders on the criminal. I swear he had an almost Kurosawa-mifune level of ability to capture Troy Donahue, but a summer place is surely his most evocative, considerate and tactfully composed of the four (?) they did together. He films spaces like a western and the faces and body movements like pure melodrama. Arthur Kennedy is one of my all-time favourites so I'm biased but I think his performance is one of the great supporting roles in Hollywood history

Could we introduce "wild-card players", as they do in some tennis grand-slam tournaments, where we have a bunch of players like me at scfz who never manage to guess the films correctly but still get randomly chosen (say every five rounds or so) to be the next person to start with a new film, even though we've never won a single game here?

definition: A wild card is a tournament or playoff berth awarded to an individual or team that fails to qualify.

Pabs, next time I win (which probably might not be anytime soon), I shall donate my turn to you.

bingo!

out of curiosity, would this transition also have made the answer clear?

for me those two shots are the most A-Cottage-on-Dartmoor screencaps there are, but I'm wondering if others feel the same way

Thanks, man! But maybe there're a few other people who wanna play that you could give it to before me. We need a hands-up of SCFZers who would like to have a turn posting for this quiz.

The Big Combo

Cornel Wilde's eyebrows gave it away and I knew I'd seen that building before.
