SCFZ poll: Shohei Imamura
SCFZ poll: Shohei Imamura
Polling the films of director Shohei Imamura
The rules:
- your list can include no more than half of the Imamura films you've seen, up to a maximum of 5. So if you've seen seven of his films, for example, you can list only a top 3. It's only if you've seen ten or more of his films than you can list the maximum of five.
- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.
- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is
- if anyone is watching films for these polls, then i'll extend the deadline three days, if someone requests an extension
- next poll: whoever posts the first ballot in this thread is free to nominate the director we poll next, unless you've nominated in this round already (everyone should get a chance). Already nominated this round: brian d, greennui, ofrene, kanafani, bure, greg x
umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/
one rule for nominees: at least 3 scfzers need to have seen 10+ of a nominee's films, or at least 4 scfzers need to have seen at least 8 of the nom's films, so if it isn't clear if that will be the case, we'll confirm that's true before moving forward
if 24 hours pass after a poll opens, and no one eligible to nominate has posted a ballot, then i'll nominate someone, and then we'll start over, and everyone will be able to nominate again

With great pleasure. I suggest Peter Yates.
Solid enough and many films. Checking him on our lists and seems we haven`t rated him ...

yea we should check peter yates, do you have 10+ oscar? seems the kind of director people might have seen more films by than they realize, but i've only seen one. if oscar has 10+ and greg has 14, we just need one more person with 10+ yates seen, and then he will be our next poll.
01. Intentions of Murder (1964)
02. Endless Desire (1958)
03. Warm Water under a Red Bridge (2001)
04. Dr Akagi (1998)
05. Nishi Ginza Station (1958)
Imamura seen: 11
PS: Love Yates, but seen merely 4 (though I would vote for 3 of those, if I could).

To please the majority is the requirement of the Planet Cinema. As far as I'm concerned, I don't make a concession to viewers, these victims of life, who think that a film is made only for their enjoyment, and who know nothing about their own existence.
only seen 4 yates films but loved them all. i have seen 5 of his episodes of danger man though.

O yes.....I have seen 18 of Yates. 10 ++ I hope we will meet one more person. Yates created many popular films, not all of equal quality, but he is such a director. As you say -people might have seen more films by than they realize:) I was also surprised when i found out i have seen 18 Yates films. Dear colleagues, i encourage you to check Peter Yates films on letterb and imdb:)flip wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 12:13 am yea we should check peter yates, do you have 10+ oscar? seems the kind of director people might have seen more films by than they realize, but i've only seen one. if oscar has 10+ and greg has 14, we just need one more person with 10+ yates seen, and then he will be our next poll.

oscar - it looks like we might need a fallback option if yates doesn't work!

No problem:) Sad for poor Peter Yates, but i nominate n2. - Norman Jewison - (seen 16 of Jewison). And in case if people don`t see him enough, my nomination n3. - Don Siegel (seen -omg-25 of Don Siegel)
18 Jewison, 17 Siegel
Insufficient Jewison from me; 9 Siegel however
I'm of little help as always:
Yates - 4
Jewison - 2
Siegel - 6 (Love all but one)
Yates - 4
Jewison - 2
Siegel - 6 (Love all but one)
5 jewison, 7 siegel
