RIP
Re: RIP
Merely an observation but the way wiki lists important deaths is kind of weird sometimes. It lists the would be assassin of Trump even though he didn't actually kill him and it will also name animals if they are of some significance. This seems to be mostly racing horses.

and i just watched borsalino (and le samourai a few months ago?) and had checked if he was still with us. he was 88
this photo from cannes 2019 - he'd been turning down movie roles for years since he'd lost his beauty

a misogynist asshole who supported jean le pen, he's been a virtual recluse for years while his children battle in the press. i didn't even know he had a son with nico that he never acknowledged who died of an overdose last year. i hope his children find peace
Delon also made headlines in February of this year when French police seized 72 firearms and 3,000 rounds of ammunition from his home. Prosecutors said he did not have a gun licence.

An icon who starred in several personal favorites. Fitting though that he died in the town of Douchy.

One of my favourite Letterboxd reviews: "It's a shame [that] Alain Delon is alive and fascist when he could be sexy and dead."

Totally agree! The TCM tribute feels so much more genuine and thoughtful. It actually takes the time to highlight people who made a real impact, while the Oscars often seem rushed and more focused on spectacle.
RIP Jimmy Carter- who caused a huge scandal in 1976 by telling playboy he had lusted in his heart. America has come a long way. we're much less judgemental of sex offenders ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)
jimmy spent his post presidency working for habitat for humanity. he turned 100 in october
he sold his peanut farm on assuming the presidency to avoid any conflicts of interest, another quaint idea we've outgrown in the trump era
forgot to mention - he had solar panels installed at the white house. reagan had them removed
imagine if we'd moved toward renewables -- 50 years ago
a good and decent man from a time when we used to care about such things

i just tried to imagine trump doing charity work
oh wait...
musk is accused of misusing his own charitable foundation -- which is really just a tax dodge for these guys
the money elon has made since the election alone is enough to donate $250,000 to every homeless person in the US
RIP jimmy ♥ we didn't deserve you

part of a trend of GOP stealing elections. imagine where we could be if we hadn't elected the bush dynasty. history is fun!

his foundation was shut down and he was ordered to pay 2 million dollars in fines to various charities. In June 2016, in response to criticism, Trump asserted publicly that he had given about $102 million to charitable causes from 2009 through 2015 and released a 93-page list of more than 4,800 donations. Just under $90 million of the total was in the form of conservation easements on Trump properties or land donations to the State of New York; the list also contained more than 2,900 donations of free rounds of golf. Further investigations led to an increasing list of allegations of abuse inside the foundation since its creation.

I just don't have a good place to put this but it's more of an homage to someone who died 70 years ago on January 4th and his standing in the cinematic world of comedy and how he was essentially destroyed. I wasn't aware of this guy beforehand but this short doc does him justice. (I think)
Not so sure how I feel about Harold Lloyd anymore based on his actions in this either. I'll have to look at the films to compare them
Buster Keaton and the Death of Clyde Bruckman

That's a tough one for me. He's the first filmmaker who truly expanded my ideas of what film was when I was 14 years old, and unlike the other filmmakers I got obsessed with in those years, he's remained just as engaging and unique as I've aged.
I did break into his garage once when I was 18. Just to take a look.
RIP to one of the greats.

Lol. An old pickup truck and some empty cans of paint. I think he had a second better garage somewhere else.
