Thanks to St Gloede for recommending De Nnorderlingen and to Flip for Man Bites Dog. Both very striking movies. I was also kinda excited by Alex Cox's Death And The Compass, but not sure it qualifies -- it was a TV episode in 1992, expanded to feature length in 1996, possibly using additional 1992 footage.

Oh! I'm glad you also dug it. I found it last year by accident looking through Mary B Ward's filmography after loving Hartley's Surviving Desire and was mildly blown away by it.

I was in film school and managing at a video store in 92' Not sure if it's my highest views for releases in a single year but I've seen 300. I didn't find it to be as significant as the releases from the following two years but these are all favs. There's still a number of contenders that I've not seen (ie. Stolen Children, Rebels of a Neon God, The Oak) but I don't expect to be able to get to them in the next 4 days.

I don't think they are doing it on purpose. All movie databases have some wrong dates and entries.
