1969 Poll 2.0
Choose your favourite films from 1969 (according to IMDB).
Each person can vote for up to 20 films. Do not feel compelled to fill the maximum allowable number.
Twenty-film ballots can be formatted as follows:
- Five tiers of four films each, 4/4/4/4/4; scored 5-4-3-2-1 pts/film/tier
- Four tiers of five films each, 5/5/5/5; scored 4.5-3.5-2.5-1.5 pts/film/tier
- Two tiers of ten films each, 10/10; scored 4-2 pts/film/tier
- No tiers, unranked; scored 3 pts/film
- A 20-film three-tier ballot is not possible
A tiered ballot can include less than 20 films, but in that case the total number of films must still be able to be factored by the number of tiers, so:
- A five tier ballot can include only 20, 15, 10, or 5 films
- A four tier ballot can include only 20, 16, 12, 8, or 4 films
- A three tier ballot (scored 5-3-1) can include only 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, or 3 films
- A two tier ballot can include only 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, or 2 films
- Ballots that are 19, 17, 13, 11, 7 or 1 films must be no tiers
Users are urged to post their provisional lists as soon as possible, so that others can use them for recommendations. You may revise your lists at any point prior to the deadline.
Deadline for 1969 ballots will be Thursday, August 31st at roughly midnight EDT.

l'amor fou review at imdb:
i'm glad rivette is finally growing on me4 hours+ to tell a dull story! Chain smoking french men and women rehearsing for Greek play, and some weak-ass relationship drama on the side. That's it!!!

L'Amour Fou is one of the more experimental ones, it's practically Out One.
The opposite of 'reify' is... ?
experimental films oh no whatever shall i do :p
actually was thinking i could be ready for out 1 soonish
actually was thinking i could be ready for out 1 soonish
One of the best years in the history of the movies, and one where I'd have to leave off at least a dozen terrific films to keep it to 20. And there are a couple dozen I'd like to see to add to the problem.
The contenders:
Larks on a String (Menzel) (one of the "banned forever" Czech movies and until recently a 1990 release on IMDb - cos that's when it was released. damn site keeps changing the dates)
Phantom India (Malle)
To Love... (Kalik) (1968 on LB)
Nest of the Gentry (Konchalovsky)
The Icon Stand (Dinov & Christov)
The Color of Pomegranates (Parajanov)
The Toth Family (Fábri)
The Red Tent (Kalatazov) (USSR cut - I've never seen the short US version)
The Structure of Crystals (Zanussi)
Army of Shadows (Melville)
Dzhamilya (Poplavskaya)
Sparkling Winds aka The Confrontation (Jancso)
A Gentle Woman (Bresson)
Pirosmani (Shengelaya)
Goyokin (Gosha)
Annychka (Ivchenko)
Subject for a Short Story (Yutkevich)
The Lady from Constantinople (Elek)
Too Little for Such a Big War (Gabrea) (1970 on IMDb)
Times without War (Gopo)
We Are Our Mountains (Malyan)
Madness (Kiisk)
The Upthrown Stone (Sára)
Gunshot at the Mountain Pass (Shamshiyev) (1968 on LB)
Ave, Vita (Grikevičius)
Portrait of Hell (Toyoda)
Bhuvan Shome (Sen)
The Witness (Bacsó)
The Land (Chahine)
All My Good Countrymen (Jasný)
The Milky Way (Buñuel)
Ådalen 31 (Widerberg)

I'm surprised so many folks have seen THE TOTH FAMILY. Maybe the best comedy ever made about autocracy.

haven't watched TOTH yet cuz have had the book on the shelf for years.....guess this is a prompt to read and then watch for the poll...
but in the meantime.....i also haven't watched this yet, but just had a quick scan through paul (dir. diourka medveczky) and had to had to had to yell with joy at our beautiful beautiful boy (fellow cinephiles that have seen the film have been none too impressed but i don't care, i finally figured it out, he looks like a candy-floss sweet artaud)

The excerpt from Zazidani. Excellent film albeit it's a sequel to Pre istine, made one year before.

Started my 1969 explorations with a rewatch, Chastity (Alessio de Paolo -- pseudonym? Maybe Sonny Bono?) It's one of those monstrous, misshapen, wannabe-youthy trainwreck movies, on a par with Skidoo. Maybe surpassing it. Earnest like you wouldn't believe and ... just... wrong... in every way.
The opposite of 'reify' is... ?

There's a shot... a whole sequence... that looks a lot like this in a student film from 1959...

no. this is such a cool little film
Մենք ենք, մեր սարերը/we are our mountains
Good movie, that.

the icon stand - todor dinov, christo christov
itself a decades-long icon of unattainability (was on youtube, no subs, subs appeared, the film disappeared, till a few years ago it resurfaced, finally complete & watchable) i have at last watched this, which i so longed to do during the period i was hopping about over stone wedding and spring for the thirsty etc....and....now it's almost too late - i am a LOT less sympathetic to the tortured, individualistic male genius than i was then. but still.....looooove that very bulgarian sparse brutality, and the cinematography is as gorgeous as expected....

i wanna see it!!!!
so there's this hot guy from the midwest who sees his life/america crumbling around him - Akran, d. richard myers features montage of clips shot between 1965-69 not far from kent state where in 1970 things went from bad to worse (myers taught there). can it be psychedelic if it's in b&w?? bonus: he gets naked
the most interesting thing here for me was the soundtrack - a cut up tape music thing by fred coulter. lots of clips of news shows and other cultural detritus (media assault by tv has a strong presence) the view from the heartland where people were aware of what was happening on the coasts (bc tv). this year is too strong for me to list this but i liked it. i'm also watching salome but kinda od'd on experimental films and passed out lol. it's alot!~

i liked akran too, only these days american movies are hard to watch without subtitles....
anyway, looks like my being pissed off at 60s movies phase is over or i'm just watching nice films:
the lady from constantinople - judit elek
looooooooooooooved this - a female directed slice of mild old-age comedic insanity....(feel like i'm almost there myself) congenial vibe masking some very sharp jibes at contemporary life, in a domestic, non-masculine way. will make space for it on my list.

I agree - great movie!
