also wooooo! first dive-bomb of the year from psycho nesting curlews (i've said it before, but they're endangered, they should act with more decorum)

tried to get a recording of their shrieking imprecations, but the wind was too strong :(

i have captured the baby cardinals for posterity. they're almost the size of their parents, with comically large crest. colors kinda streaky but the real tell is the black beak

something extraordinary happened yesterday!
Image

a bird (a spy???) flew inside my off-town manor via an open door.
Image

when the bird noticed that i noticed it, it tried to escape via a closed window.
Image

i must admit i was mean and took a few snapshots of this futile struggle.
Image

but i didn't torture the bird too long.
Image

i tried to open the window, but it was opening against the bird and the bird had no clue what maneuver to do to escape.
Image

thus the desperate bird decided to become invisible and it crouched down (hiding its head) in the dark bottom left corner.
Image

it was silly, i could see it.
Image

so, i tried to grab the bird.
Image

the silly bird didn't panic and let me carry it outside.
Image

it was so cool!
i can't remember i would ever in my life carry in my hand a wild (non-pet) bird.
Image

i felt like Francis of Assisi.
Image

i believe it was rehek domácí (black redstart) → https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rehek_dom%C3%A1c%C3%AD
but maybe i am mistaken???

precious! ♥ i've never seen one of those! (fewer than 100 nesting pairs in uk)

birds are so light and fragile to hold! did you feel its little heart battering away in your hands?

everything was so fast!
all the snapshots i made within just a few moments.
then it was a bit slower when i (several times) tried slowly opening the window — but it was obvious the bird has no clue what to do (how to bypass it).
then suddenly the bird did that silly maneuver of trying to hide in the corner.
i didn't expect it would allow me to catch it in hand — i thought it would panic.
but i tried and it went smooth.
however, then again everything was so fast.
initially, i didn't intend to prolong the (cool) moment, cuz i still expected the bird might start panicking and near the door i started opening the palm.
then for a second, i thought i will actually hold the bird for a bit longer and enjoy the moment but the bird was already slipping out of my hand, so i didn't try to re-catch it.
i let it fly away.
thus, i didn't feel the heartbeat but it was still enchanting (a wild bird taking off from one's palm).
