:) yes, 1/ she designed a "normal school" for the "bastards" (students) so they would not consider themselves to be part of the elite (due to attending a selective educational institution), 2/ she placed pedagogues in "aquariums" so everyone can see they are "doing shit", and 3/ made somewhat silly pink-orange-violet auditoriums to contradict all the simplicity, minimalism and strictness with a mild tinge of mischief!

after her passing away was announced by the news, plenty of ppl were sharing their memories (related to her) on social media.
she was known to be quite straightforward (and occasionally quite rude — tho she was not humiliating ppl, her mildly mischievous usage of vulgarisms was almost amusing and its sole purpose was to make a person aware, he/she did something dumb/stupid/imbecile).
thus one dude mentioned yesterday that in his view, so many ppl were driven to her because it was a big challenge to make a project (tutored by her) that she would not call/consider stupid/dumb and alike.

she was also quite known to be highly sclerotic (not recalling ppl with whom she was not really familiar for years).
whoever was doing a semestral project (tutored by her), he/she (i.e. the "bastard") consulted it with her once a week.
since i left the school after 3 yrs and initially i was tutored by someone else (first, i had to figure out who is who to realize SHE is the ONE & ONLY), so those ca. 2 years were still not enough she would remember me.
each and every week i had to introduce myself — tho she could recall the project rather fast.
if i did something she really liked (happening seldom) then she was able to recall me for 2-3 weeks and i could skip introducing myself during the next 2-3 consultations.
however, then again she completely forgot my persona and before the next consultation, i was again obliged to give the hints who the fuck i am (and ultimately i had to show the project so she could really recall).
now (in retrospect), i am not completely sure if she was really that sclerotic or if it was a kind of mischievous way of giving the "death of the author" lessons — to ingrain in our juvenile artistic brains that work/project matters (is worthy to be remembered) not the author (and his/her personal trivia).

in retrospect, i also think that despite i left the school and embraced the life of an aimless drifter, it is due to her ongoing lessons about the importance of being "normal" (i.e. predictable, strict/austere, moral, educated, truthful, non-trendy, etc., etc., etc.) i didn't go completely dandy and despite occasionally displaying mild eccentricities i am prevalently a "commoner".

what kind of magical fairyland do you live in that someone could forget you! i'm sure all your projects were fascinating....

so did you actually attend in that building? did you sit and study in those pink places? wander through all that delicious concrete?

just googled a few things of hers and come to the conclusion that normal is a wave - intensively extremely minimal...she's the high peak of simplicity, a grand ungrandness, as opposed to robert walser's trough of microscopic grandeur...or maybe it's the other way around...

this school building is relatively "new" (2009–2011).
i attended in 1992-1995 the house "next door" (she mentions it in the doc as the building where everyone could hide — thus she trying for the opposite in the new building).
in the doc, there is ("next door") also a somewhat round building (technical library — containing also a gallery that i already mentioned in another thread).
neither the new school nor library was there in the 1990s (there were empty plots then).
but i visited the new school building several times (after it was built), listening to some public lectures in (from outside silly looking) auditoriums, etc.

unfortunately (to disappoint you), my projects were not really that fascinating.
and my creative genius peaked prior to converting to the Alena Šramková's tutorship.

besides the general education (carried out by regular teachers), we had our semestral projects done in the ateliers tutored by ppl who were usually rather loosely tied to school and prevalently were practicing architects (in the atelier, students of all the grades were present — there were usually 2-3 different semestral projects in the same atelier and thus according to the level of experience we were working next to each other on 2-3 different things).
so, for my two initial projects, i choose someone else (was yet too stupid to choose Alena).
my very first project suffered all the shortcomings of a nob designer.
my 3 other classmates (of the first grade) that choose the same atelier didn't do much better.
we all decided to stay in the same atelier and thus our tutor decided to let us design a "simple structure".
we were not supposed to provide the usual blueprints but just to build the big scale models of those "simple structures" (thus to learn basics — that we lacked).
however, it turned out his idea of a "simple structure" and our idea went completely astray.
we were doing things he didn't expect us to do, complete confusion started to prevail and i probably deviated the most.
instead of testing some structural details (in big scale models), i started to manufacture as a "simple structure" stuff you can nowadays encounter on the websites like "cabin porn" (meeting place of ppl who dream about living in a barrel like Diogenes) → https://cabinporn.com/
my tutor (actually not a bad person and certainly a good architect) became increasingly disappointed with me and ultimately i stopped consulting with him and did my own shit regardless of his opinions.
i have built two models of two mildly ridiculous forest cabins.
i just got influenced by newly discovered John Hejduk's picaresque experiments of this kind ↓
Image
and thus really didn't care to carry out any structural/technological investigations of a "simple (hi-tech) structure".
finally, the day has come we had our final official presentation of our semestral projects and when my tutor finally was allowed to see what i have done (in the last phase i did not only skip consulting him but also didn't let him to see what i am "constructing") he was shocked and angered.
i guess he felt i tried to shame him publically (to lower the repute of his atelier to the bottom).
all he did then was he came to me pissed off and whispered to my ear with a high degree of anger, "congratulations, great job!"
i ignored him (thinking "fuck you!").
then our semestral works were on display for the whole week in our ateliers (to be seen by the rest of the school, by the interested public, and by the jury giving school awards).
the jury was chosen from local architects not directly related to the school (3 people in sum).
one of the members of the jury then was David Vávra (an architect by profession but also a local monty-pythonesque actor — he is f.e. the odd guy who eats the castrated testicles in "Traps" by Věra Chytilová) → https://letterboxd.com/actor/david-vavra/
i can't say for sure, but i am convinced he was the main culprit in my sole oficial artistic breakthrough in the field of architecture (the other two members of the jury were too sublunary to suspect them of finding my odd forest huts appealing).
i was awarded a special school prize for my "simple structures"!
in sum, there were about 5-7 regular awards and 2-3 special (minor) awards — picked out of all the projects done in all the ateliers.
it was announced prior to the official evaluation by our tutor, so i was really looking forward to what he will say while reviewing my "dream castles".
instead of being true to his original anger and despise, he suddenly (already knowing i am a laureate) started to blabbler that what i have created is actually not that bad, that it has its fringe charm, blablablablablabla and i received a mediocre mark/rating (instead of the worst rating that i expected a week ago — based on his initial response).
i was utterly disgusted by this blatant hypocrisy, took both my models (after the blablabla evaluation), and threw them in the garbage can right in front of the school.
it was actually a mild mistake cuz the prize was linked with a certain sum of bucks but the prerequisite to receiving those bucks was to display the project in the other (successive) exhibition of awarded projects.
i got to know this too late, was not able to rescue my models from the garbage can (had no blueprints, cuz the project was just making those big scale models) and thus didn't make at least once in my life some money via architecture.
tho, all the laureates were mentioned in then leading local architectural journal so i left a permanent trace in the local architectural landscape.

naturally, i didn't stay in the same atelier and moved to the one tutored by Alena.
she accepted me cuz she held my previous tutor in esteem (again, he was actually not that bad and it was not his fault that he encountered a "radical" & "untamable" neophyte).
she didn't investigate what exactly i did in the previous atelier (i didn't introduce myself to the point of highlighting that i attempted to "disrepute" my previous tutor).
if she knew, i am not completely sure she would accept me.
in comparison to the previous episode (drama), my years with Alena were peaceful and easygoing.
i started to really learn about architecture, got some mature insights, abandoned neophyte radicalism, never received any school prize again, started to realize i don't want to be one-dimensional professional solely focused on architecture, stated with my truancies (attending lectures on postmodern ethics, i.e. "anthropology of liers", by Miroslav Petříček, viz another thread), started to lose grip of all my uni duties, and ultimately embraced the life style of a dilletante polymath who pursues mainly his hobbies, not his profession.

"she's the high peak of simplicity, a grand ungrandness", "intensively extremely minimal" — yes, it was her prevalent message (that was so alluring to me).

1946 poll:

HOUSE TRICKS? (Seymour Kneitel, 1946)

complexity and contradiction in architecture!
postmodernism already knocking at the door!
Image
Olive is building a house when the boys happen by. They show off a bit to convince her to let them build her house for her. She decides to split the job in half by splitting the blueprints in half and having each build one side of the house. Of course, "cooperation" isn't in their vocabulary. Bluto does an extremely sloppy job on his half, and also takes every opportunity to either sabotage Popeye or trick him into doing more work. Meanwhile, Popeye's making enough of his own mistakes, many of which seem to involve wedging Olive into small bent pipes. Eventually, Popeye has his spinach and finishes the house, but the house collapses as they are celebrating with a kiss.

oh, i love "speaking architecture" → https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architecture_parlante

plus, i love (somewhat related) concepts of the "theater of memory" (or spatializing knowledge) → https://socks-studio.com/2019/03/03/spa ... 6Fs3OU35ns

and all kinds of architectural drawings that were supposed to aid remembrance.
i.e. all kinds of weird-looking castles that were supposed to retain one's memories by assorting those memories with some spatial/architectural location/attribute.

for a moment i thought it was the 1955 flick.
it is not (it's 1954) but i reasoned, "watching it can't hurt" and watched it anyway...
Within the walls of Kronborg are the remains of another and much older castle, Krogen, which was built by Erik of Pommern around 1420.

THE CASTLE WITHIN THE CASTLE (Carl Theodor Dreyer, Jørgen Roos) full movie (9 min) with English subs...

i love love this type of book!

in the early 1990s, i spent nearly two weeks obsessing about (all the main) buildings by Otto Wagner in Vienna.
and discovered in some Viennese bookshop his monograph in 3 volumes (i believe in those times only 3 volumes were published).
the first two volumes contained an overview of all his buildings.
however, i was mesmerized mainly by the 3rd volume called "The Unity of Art: World History of Basic Forms".
i remember i desperately wanted that particular volume but it was way beyond my pocket money.
Image

now (i see), there are 7 volumes in sum.
4th is about Wagner's tutors Sicard & van der Nüll.
and (i see) there are moreover 3 volumes (5th & 6th & 7th) called, "Architecture of Eros"

watched this without subs mainly because i have previously noted & enjoyed knudsen's cinematography

however this was only annoying in the part where it was apparently explained (inc some buildings we've seen before) how icelandic architectural style that had been static for centuries suddenly & dramatically exploded into the 20th century (i am guessing it was something to do with discovering that local rock makes marvellous concrete?)

ha, it is truly a museum!
Ásmundarsafn, also known as the Reykjavik Art Museum, is set within a unique white dome building with an impressive indoor and outdoor art collection. The museum is located within the former home and studio of Icelandic designer Ásmundur Sveinsson. Within the museum grounds, you will find a wide selection of Ásmundarsafn’s famous sculptures, with everything from traditional figures to abstract art pieces.
and i actually grabbed (some time ago) a short film about Ásmundur Sveinsson that i intended to watch for CoMo!
and i see (based on fleeting inspection) it contains shots from within the museum!

gonna share.
but also grab one more first.
there are two actually (i have only one).
both are without subs tho.
now, leaving for a moment — but then gonna grab the other one and share both!

maybe they just applied a lot of make-up during their 1946 cooing.
enamored ppl want to impress their crush and thus take a mild "mask".
plus the cooing bliss gave them unusual ("unnatural") juvenile luster probably.
and thus it seems that love had consumed their fresh look just within 9 years.
however, they might had been much older at the start (in 1946) than we assume???

When Frank Lloyd Wright Designed a Doghouse, His Smallest Architectural Creation (1956)

Image

The Bergers’ golden retriever “certainly wouldn’t be the first of Wright’s clients to be disappointed by some of the architect’s shortcomings,” writes Sharp. “Apparently, as with many of Wright’s designs, the roof to Eddie’s House leaked.” Nevertheless, it’s become a beloved addition to the Wright canon since Berger rebuilt it for Michael Miner’s Romanza: A Frank Lloyd Wright Documentary and subsequently donated it to the county. To this day, the replica of Wright’s smallest work remains on display inside his largest one: the Marin Civic Center, a slightly later and much more ambitious building, but one not entirely lacking in family resemblance to Eddie’s House.

1995 poll watchlist:

besides
EDWARD JAMES: BUILDER OF DREAMS (Avery Danziger, Sarah Stein)
viewtopic.php?p=35614#p35614

and
IMAGINARY ARCHITECTURE, THE ARCHITECT HANS SCHAROUN (Hartmut Bitomsky)

there is also a 1995 film about a house that behaves like a sunflower...
IL GIRASOLE: A HOUSE NEAR VERONA (Christoph Schaub, Marcel Meili)
IL GIRASOLE: UNA CASA VICINO A VERONA → https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137828/
Affectionately termed 'The Sunflower', the house was built in the 1930s by architects Angelo Invernizzi and Ettore Fagiuoli, with the help of their artist, sculptor, furniture-maker, and architect friends. Powered by an electric motor, Il Girasole is able to rotate a full 360 degrees on its circular base, highly radical in the way that all the components of the house (including its courtyard) are part of the structure's rotational sphere.
