SCFZ poll: Dave Fleischer

Post by flip »

Polling the films of Dave Fleischer

The rules:

- your list can include no more than half* of the Fleischer films you've seen, up to a maximum of 8. So if you've seen 6 films, you can vote for 3, and if you've seen 20, you can vote for up to 8.

* If you've seen an odd number, you can round up when deciding the length of your ballot -- e.g if you've seen 7, you can vote for 4, and if you've seen 15, you can vote for the maximum of 8.

- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.

- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is

umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/

another random selection, but one some people have seen a lot from.

i'll be slowing the director polls to one-per-week for the next couple of weeks at least, got some real life stuff that needs attention

Seen 76.

Ordering these is hard, but Lillian Roth leading the audience in a lesbian sing-a-long has to be #1.

1. Ain’t She Sweet (1933)
2. Stop That Noise! (1935)
3. Sally Swing (1938)
4. The Arctic Giant (1942)
5. Betty Boop's Hallowe’en Party (1933)
6. Poor Cinderella (1934)
7. I Heard (1933)
8. Snow-White (1933)

never quite understood the breakdown of auteurism in the fleischer studios...

and always think of the great american cartoonist jim woodring's obsession with bimbo's initiation https://boingboing.net/2012/06/05/mind- ... imbos.html

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dave Fleischer (and Fleischer Bros. in general)

I haven't seen that many (probably about 30 or 40) and clearly remember only around 20.

01. Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941) - personal Top 50 movie
02. Superman (1941)
03. Invisible Ink (1921)
04. The Mechanical Monsters (1941)
05. Snow-White (1933)
06. Bimbo's Initiation (1931)
07. Out of the Inkwell (1919)
08. Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor (1936)
