SCFZ poll: John Schlesinger

Post by flip »

Polling the films of John Schlesinger

The rules:

- your list can include no more than half* of the Schlesinger films you've seen, up to a maximum of 8. So if you've seen 6 films, you can vote for 3, and if you've seen 20, you can vote for up to 8.

* If you've seen an odd number, you can round up when deciding the length of your ballot -- e.g if you've seen 7, you can vote for 4, and if you've seen 15, you can vote for the maximum of 8.

- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.

- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is

very close contest, might be one of our closest ever. interestingly (perhaps) all eight of schlesinger's first eight feature films made our top ten. then from 1979's yanks through to 2000's the next best thing schlesinger made roughly 15 feature-length films (a few for tv) and only three of those even got a vote. so perhaps schlesinger should have taken early retirement. or maybe those later films are good and are just underseen.

results
1. Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) — 13 pts
2. Far From the Madding Crowd (1967) — 12 pts
2. Midnight Cowboy (1969) — 12 pts

5. The Falcon and the Snowman (1985) — 9 pts
6. Billy Liar (1963) — 7 pts
7. Darling (1965) — 6.5 pts
8. Pacific Heights (1990) — 6 pts
9. The Day of the Locust (1975) — 5 pts
10. A Kind of Loving (1962) -- 3 pts
