Don't worry, we have now at least 100 unpolled directors listed in this thread whose stuff is amazing!

Oh I do know - I've watched 5 Jarman, 1 Franco and 2 Jack Arnold's just in the past week because of these polls. Been a blast - esp since I have a bit of time.

But Schwizgebel is pretty special stuff and I was just throwing it out there, because he might be a new discovery to some.

i remember joks asked that we poll karel zeman, and i didn't realize (or maybe i did, then forgot) that zeman had passed our views threshold, so i'll make zeman our next poll. but after that, we have no directors in the queue, so anyone can feel free to suggest a name! if we don't get a name for the polls next week, i'll just use a random number generator to pick an eligible director, or i'll skip the poll

i was just looking up a few more of these directors on letterboxd to see how many films i'd seen, and it appears that jim abrahams and james bridges didn't make even ten films in total, so unless they made things that aren't on letterboxd that someone here has seen, they won't be eligible for a poll at all (until we reach the stage where we poll directors without much output) and can probably be removed from the list here

and because this whole exercise can seem needlessly bureaucratic (and because i see some short ballots sometimes), to clarify:

the point of this view-counting exercise is to make sure, if we run a poll, that there will be enough votes for the poll to work. so if you're saying "seen 7+" in this thread, really what that should mean is that you'll vote for 4 (or more) if we run the poll under the extended rules, and if you say "seen 10+", that should mean you'll post a 5-film ballot. if you've seen 30 films by a director, but you hate them all and won't even vote in a poll, then please don't post to say you've seen 30, because the point isn't really to count views but rather to gauge how many votes we'll get if we do a poll. thanks! :)

list updated!

re: 10 minus oeuvres
i want to keep in the list all those Jims or Jameses with a small oeuvre.
once we run off 10+ oeuvres and will legislate how many sole 7+ is sufficient, all those names will be ready to become colored red.

re: haphazard claims of views
my (waiting room) list-making policy is as follows...

1/ views by 1 person (director's name enlisted in black)
Karel Zeman: joks 7+

2/ views by 2 persons (director's name in black, "help" flag is spread)
Karel Zeman: apathé 10+, joks 7+ ... :helpsign:

3/ views by 3 persons with one 10+ (director's name colored red)
Karel Zeman: apathé 10+, joks 7+, rischka 7+

4/ poll starts (director's name decolored and cross-checked, the record of 7+ or 10+ views is kept)
KAREL ZEMAN: apathé 10+, joks 7+, rischka 7+

f.e. now, rischka's 4 favorites of Karel Zeman are still eagerly awaited!
however, Karel Zeman poll started only recently so it is still enough time left, and thus no need for a reminder.
however, once the poll will be near its deadline and some haphazard claimer of views is gonna be detected he/she will be mildly pushed to vote by becoming the recipient of the messages saying f.e. "Have you died?" or "I Know What You Said Last Summer!"

5/ poll was successfully carried out (director's name cross-checked, serial number of the poll enlisted, the record of views removed)
KAREL ZEMAN No666

initially (strictly speaking), it was "benecio"
whom i nicknamed "benicio"
thus (obviously) referring to "guillermo".
if greg agrees i will make guillermo explicit now.
