SCFZ poll: Wladyslaw Starewicz
SCFZ poll: Wladyslaw Starewicz
Polling the films of Wladyslaw Starewicz
The rules:
- your list can include no more than half of the Starewicz films you've seen, up to a maximum of 5. So if you've seen seven of his films, for example, you can list only a top 3. It's only if you've seen ten or more of his films than you can list the maximum of five.
- i'll assume ballots are ranked unless you tell me otherwise. unranked ballots are fine.
- deadline for ballots: next Friday, in seven days, whatever day that is
umbugbene created an index on letterboxd of all of our previous polls here: letterboxd.com/umbugbene/list/index-of-all-scfz-director-polls/

might as well use extended rules:
- if you've seen an odd #, you can round up instead of down when deciding the length of your ballot (e.g. if you've seen 7, you can vote for 4 instead of the usual 3)
- if you've seen more than 10, you can vote for more than 5, subject to the restriction above

Seen 11. Great lithuanian master of animation. He mainly spoke polish. He lived in my native Kaunas city. Later went to work in Russia, France..
He was forgotten a bit. Now many researches done about him. Lithuanian movie was created about him:

My votes:

The Cameraman's Revenge (1912)
The Four Devils (1913)
The Dragonfly and the Ant (1913)
The Frogs Who Wanted a King(1922)

I'd guess that's about 70% of his filmography.

i'm not sure how to count this vote i've tallied the votes, and this one vote might kind of matter - i could give it to the insects' christmas, or to the cameraman's revenge, or to the dragonfly and the ant or to something else (or to more than one film if you've seen enough to vote for more than 3)
Not a very exciting list from me, only seen the most well known ones I guess, but at least I can slide votes towards the Nightingale and the Rats from my six flicks.
The Insects Christmas
The Nightingale's Voice
The Town Rat and the Country Rat

I know I've seen those two
ok thanks! i'm not sure if those were in order, or if they're meant to be tied, but it turns out not to really matter in the results anyway
i'm always impressed when we poll someone like starewicz, who is obviously familiar enough to people who know the silent era well or who know animation history, but who probably isn't familiar to a lot of more casual film folk, and end up with votes for 14 different films. his films that i had thought, before the poll, were his best-known ended up taking the top two spots:

i posted this to letterboxd. it doesn't seem that the four devils (1913) is on letterboxd, so i couldn't include it in the list, but if anyone adds it to the tmdb/letterboxd database, let me know and i'll edit:
