74 Dave Fleischer's. Unfortunately can't help with the other names, though several are interesting Subjects-for-Further-Research.

Oh, also, yes, John + Preston Sturges would be my fav, and bananas.

6 Shyamalan, and can't help with the others (4 Doillon is my closest)

it looks like we'd need another person with 6 or 7+ doillon or shindo for either of them to work, and shyamalan would work as long as we have someone who has seen at least 10 (we always need at least one voter to have seen 10). i'll wait for more replies, but fleischer clearly works as a fallback

i'll wait until tomorrow morning (18 hours or so) but if we don't get more support for a doillon, shindo or shyamalan poll, i'll start up the fleischer one!

it looks like shindo is very much on the borderline of being poll-able right now, so it probably makes sense to wait, in the hopes that people will see one or two more films in the interim. since oscar has seen 10+ shyamalan, he definitely works, and since he was wba's preference over fleischer, i'll start up that poll next! i think i'll actually start it on monday or tuesday and then get back on the usual tues/fri schedule.

i'll take the other bullet, i watched "dans l'obscurité", which didn't do much for me, i'll give it 1.9 out of 5 so it will rank behind young ahmed

If you/the board on the whole don't rate a film, is it still worth putting it on the top 10 just so we have a full list? I always interpreted these top 10s as recommendations/endorsements. Don't get me wrong, I love round numbers as well, just wondering what your take on that is.

in cases where a filmmaker has only made say 11 or 12 films that might have been widely enough seen to get any votes at all, i think when a film ranks say 9th in top 10, it isn't really much of an endorsement, is how i look at it

Meh. I'll give it two and a half shaky cams out of five. Only seen three more, here's how I rank them:

1. The Son
2. Rosetta
3. The Kid with a Bike
4. Lorna's Silence

thanks searchlike! that at least gives me some basis to rank the bottom trio of films... i would have bet on rosetta to win but in an extremely close contest, it did not. the dardennes have won the palme d'or twice, and those two films came in 2nd (rosetta) and 6th in our poll (the winner of our poll did win the cannes grand prix though, and the 9th place film, which didn't actually get a proper vote, won them best director) :

results
1. The Kid with a Bike — 17 pts
2. Rosetta — 16 pts
2. Le Fils — 16 pts
4. La Promesse — 11 pts
4. Two Days, One Night — 11 pts
6. L’Enfant — 9 pts
7. The Unknown Girl — 2 pts
8. Lorna’s Silence — 0.0025 pts
9. The Young Ahmed — 0.002 pts
10. Dans l’Obscurité — 0.0019 pts
