plus last time, i was suggesting as the second option Angela Schanelec and we didn't count her viewings (i have seen 6 — but i would watch 3-4 more for the poll).
so, one (any) of these two would be great.
i'm guessing schanelec just hasn't made enough films (that are viewable) for almost anyone to have seen the 10+ we need someone to have seen. jires would definitely work if a couple of others had seen 6 or more, but i'm not optimistic at this point we'll find those people either :( i'll definitely wait until tomorrow, but if you have any alternate suggestions that'd be great!

so (considering the paralel 1929 poll) what about Hans Richter??? (i have cca 6 but can easily get to 10)
or eventually Volker Schlöndorff??? (i have 8 and would be able to reach 10)

i've seen 8 by richter, and i'm sure i haven't seen the most of anyone around here, so if someone has seen 10, he'll work for sure.

i've only seen 3 by schlorndorff, but i imagine some people have seen more.

okay, schlorndorff definitely meets the criteria, and if we have someone with 10+ richter seen, then richter does too...

if Richter will pass (hopefully, someone will appear) i prefer him (due to the 1929 poll) -------- and Schlöndorff can be sparred for later.

Can you extend this poll to next friday flip? Would like to fit in Goldflocken.

Gonna tell my kids this was Kate Bush and Boy George:

If you liked Johannas Traum then you should def watch Malibran, jiri. I think JT is mostly made up of unused footage from Malibran.

i am in the middle of Malibran right now. (i couldn't ignore all the praise above.)
and i am also pleading for extending this poll.
i still wish to watch after Malibran at least Deux and Rosekönig and don't want to skip cup movies either (so would like to watch the remaining films for this poll next week).
unfortunately, my lately idling in yolo economy is over, i am back in sweatshop mode and thus it is harder to find time for movies.

German was just one of the languages, did have german hardsubs that I sort of understood when I concentrated.

Deux. Schroeter in madcap mode. Huppert rampaging all over the place, chasing foxes and performing cabaret songs. Bulle Ogier smoking joints, having threesomes and so forth.

i'm not familiar enough with schroeter and his reception to know how conventional or surprising our poll results are:

results

1. The Death of Maria Malibran (1972) — 10.5 pts
2. Palermo or Wolfsburg (1980) — 7 pts
3. Willow Springs (1973) — 6.3 pts
4. Johannas Traum (1975) — 4.5 pts
5. Der Rosenkonig (1986) — 4 pts
6. Day of the Idiots (1981) — 3 pts
6. Aggression (1968) — 3 pts
8. Der Bomberpilot (1970) — 2 pts
8. Argila (1969) — 2 pts
8. Malina (1991) — 2 pts
11. The Kingdom of Naples (1978) — 1 pt
11. Goldflocken (1976) — 1 pt
13. Eika Katappa (1969) — 0.3 pts

I see I didn't vote here, but also wouldn't have had anything to vote for. Given him 3 chances so far, with Der Tod der Maria Malibran, Willow Springs and Der Bomberpilot. Found all rather repellent and not in a good way. I could appreciate certain visual touches, and can see a kinship with von Syderberg and Ottinger (both of who I'm a relative fan of), but here any promising atmosphere and exciting compositions/stylistic flares is often killed off by elements that just don't work for me (yet) and just strike me as downright aesthetically ugly. That may just be the effect it is going for, but the execution is just not something I can connect with. Ratings so far: 5/10, 4/10, 2/10.

Many images from his films still strike me as tantalizing and exciting though, and I will likely be drawn in again. The screenshots shared above just confirm that.

love all 3 of those but i'd say they are well within his very underground/avant-garde period. not sure you'd like any of the post '78 stuff all that much more but the aesthetics definitely shift as he gets access to larger budgets and canvasses to work with.
